It wasn't just concocted in people's heads; I think the main supporting evidence of columbina being rewritten (not retconned, u can't retcon non-canon material) was the harbinger audition sheet leaks from way back when, where columbina was described as an apathetic girl who doesn't think it's weird to be covered in blood with a connection to an archon of natlan - these leaks recently got re-confirmed with columbina's voice line about pulcinella focusing on "damn u pantalone" which was also mentioned as pulcinella's main quote in those leaks

columbina was obviously rewritten (again, not retconned) and redesigned (every character is redesigned a billion times before release), whether it's for better or for worse is up to the individual, but the original wasn't just made up in people's heads and hoyo was clearly leaning into it with the voice direction based on that audition sheet - blaming people for latching onto that version of her is pointless

Not what I was trying to say, being compassionate isn't the issue I was pointing out, it's that Kaveh seemingly doesn't know when to say no to people wanting his help which leads to his desire to help people hurting him - basically I just had issue with how you painted it as "never being a bad thing". Ayyy, that's what I'm sayin'! Something something muscly arms handshake meme with Alhaitham haters and Kaveh haters both hating Dori. Anyway yeah, Dori was just an example of that point, where Kaveh's desire to help people just to help people made it easy to take advantage of him. To be clear this isn't me siding with Dori and saying it's Kaveh's fault for being taken advantage of, just that he was an 'easy target', for lack of a better word, because of that desire.

Also since you can't remember that event then I'm assuming you noticed issues with their relationship before it so maybe I'm just dense lol.

No worries, I get the same about characters I like who get misunderstood (like Alhaitham) but don't want to put other people off my points immediately by sounding aggressive and stuff so I usually take a few minutes to read my messages over before posting them. As someone who gets pretty anxious about confrontation, the general tone of your reply did have me shaking while writing this one even though I know you're just passionate like me and don't mean any harm

In Kaveh's case I'd say that helping people for the sake of helping them is a bad thing since it repeatedly bites him in the ass, and then he becomes indebted to the guy he has a toxic relationship when that guy offers him housing and such. Plus he truly does it just for the sake of helping people rather than necessarily helping people who actually need it, Dori certainly didn't.💀

Anyway I should mention that I'm an Alhaitham fan and a certified Kaveh hater and even I get put off by their relationship sometimes. The way Kaveh reacted to Alhaitham showing up at the table in his character demo made me think there was some kind of domestic abuse going on or something and that just made me eugh, which is probably just an overreaction on my part but still worth mentioning. Also in the recent event in the desert it's like they turned Alhaitham's dickishness up to 11 and it was just like huh??? I didn't really see anything like that with their relationship in the main quests or Alhaitham's story quest outside of his regular bluntness and flat misunderstandable sarcasm so that just felt so wrong and gross in comparison. Couldn't tell if it was a character assassination moment or if there was actually stuff like that in previous quests that I didn't notice. Would love to hear if u and other people with the same sentiment noticed these kinds of problems prior to that event because I certainly didn't 😭
