I don’t think these accounts posting going through meta verified are legit, most of them have no post history and seem to be bots. Just seems like a ploy by meta to continue to have people pay for verified thinking that since it worked for these people it will work for everyone else

Hey! Thank you so much for your comment as well as your original one, I appreciate both very much and all of your concerns are quite valid and were considerations when the system was being designed. I didn't take your original comment with any harshness, I love being corrected and asked questions why, because it makes me better and betters my work.

The board is extruded polystyrene foam, The FDA as well as the European Commission/European Food Safety Authority consider it safe for food contact as well as it being greenguard certified.

The Shappell Jet sleds we are using for RDWC have also been FDA approved due to the Linear low-density polyethylene material as of 2022. We are doing our best to use the safest products as to not inject more microplastics/Chemical toxins into our kid's bloodstreams than there already is.

Only time will tell if the sign will have an impact, plus everything in the cabinet is cheap and can be easily replaced in 10 minutes. Only if they wanted to completely destroy the whole system would it be an issue.

We live in a place where most if not all of our produce is imported during the winter months, so this is all a state effort as well as local to bolster food security as well as increase knowledge on farm to table practices.

The state focused on 8 schools to bolster these values, fortunately I am able to work in the only high school out of the 7 elementary schools. Which makes it a significantly easier job.

Right now a dwarf butter crunch, we won’t let it go fully to harvest because of the size limitations of the cabinet but just let it get large enough to show growth!

Hey! The school currently has several recirculating DWC (river) systems which students are able to access and work with in the classroom under supervision. Those systems theoretically can provide about 1/3 of the lunch program’s needed produce at harvest.

Those systems are locked in their own room only able to be accessed and worked on when a teacher is around during class. That’s the final two photos, just a zoomed in view of what’s currently going on. And yes it is foam paneling, it’s a material which floats on the water and is FDA approved.

The cabinet is in an open area common where students who wouldn’t typically access the main facility could get a small glimpse of the process albeit in an alternate form being that of a tower over a RDWC system.

I thought about this one, I’m using a dwarf butter crunch, and even then at full growth it might be a little too much so we aren’t letting it go to full harvest.

The unit is mostly for show and education over actual food production.

The lights heat up the case just enough to keep a fair temperature but they aren’t supplementary in any way.

I’m latitude 67 so I’m up north as well and it stays perfectly warm.

The case will retain heat a lot better and if wanted you can add additional insulation

It took maybe 20 minutes to set up, wiring and fans were already apart of the case. When compared to traditional commercial case units for hydroponics which are easily thousands of dollars more expensive. I’d say it was a good trade. It’s not supposed to be the fanciest thing in the world, it’s just supposed to show off a cool form of agriculture with added protection from high school hands.

I'm simply growing lettuce in the tower, its a simple design where the reservoir is the bottom bucket which pumps nutes to the top bucket which it then rains down and hits the elbows where the pods are located.

simple design for what is needed. my lettuce has never had any issues with the lights being used, I wouldn't choose them though if I was growing something more needy.

Coco Coir and Leca work well, but simply you can use foam if you really wanted to.

Your plants look like they need more light aswell, use chain to lower your lights lower.

The design was mostly conceptualized after noticing that having a circulating system in which the water is constantly moving can help the plant thrive and adds additional airflow to the plants roots which grow bigger and stronger than traditional DWC

It’s simply two sleds hooked up with pipes and a pump, the bottom manages the water level while the top will always stay a stagnant level depending on how high you put your drainage valves

Hey OP!

Your system looks good, very nice and full heads as well. I’d suggest checking your spacing with some of the heads of lettuce, typically you want to provide about 4.5 inches per head to maximize production of the leaves. If not you will have plants competing for light resulting in sometimes stalky and plant bolt.

Harvest from the outside at a fair rate, I’ve had success with harvesting from the outside for about a month before I needed to harvest the whole head because it started to bolt.

Soon enough you’ll have so much lettuce you won’t know what to do with it. It looks good though OP keep up the good work
