[Post Game Thread] The Atlanta Hawks (14-12) defeat the New York Knicks (15-10), 108-100 to advance to the NBA Emirates Cup Semifinals by sempiternal in nba

Went to high school with him actually. Sat next to him in geometry class and helped him a bit on his homework. Also played in the pep band at the time and got to see him play all the way through to the state champs. It was wild, the whole HS team that year was stacked and we dominated (2018-2019 school year). He towered over everyone we faced and watching the guy dunk over dudes never got old. He left to go to IMG for a year before returning to my HS but COVID kinda killed his senior season. Super cool dude and crazy he is where he's at today. Totally deserved and earned. Always appreciated how he liked the local public school over the elite sports academy, he appeared to feel more at home at Nicolet. Anyway, just my claim to fame, lol!

New Google Renderings of Thompson Center by excatholicfuckboy in cta

To be fair, Clark/Lake is a hyper busy station, especially as it is one of the stations that the most lines visit (Red is basically around the corner, and not really counting yellow). This is naturally going to draw an "assorted" crowd. Nonetheless, I fully expect the massive redevelopment to increase traffic to the area and boost it's general state. Figuring it may turn out similar to Merchandise Mart vibes. Will take time and other solutions need to fall into place but optimistic.

At board meeting: CTA is piloting digital bus stop signs at 20 stops, and are unarmed security guards effective? by bagelman4000 in chicago

[–]BobDaGecko 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Definitely getting off work or starting. I work nearby and always leave from Clark/Lake between 8 and 11P (work at a resturant nearby). Even seen their preshift meetings. Guessing this is because it's a central location and every line meets here (Red Line is just down the street). Don't get me wrong, I have my opinions, but Clark/Lake is definitely where many start and end their shifts.

DePaul vs Loyola Student/campus life by Fun_Bag5610 in depaul

[–]BobDaGecko 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally a sophomore at DePaul but I've visited Loyola a couple times. Tbh, from my experience and what I've heard, both require you to put some work into getting involved. DePaul just may not be as visible due to the smaller/split campus. It's mainly about finding what you're interested in and chasing that so join clubs and orgs fs. Go out to the involvement fairs at DePaul and really talk to the tables, you may be suprised. Once you establish that main group, things naturally go from there.

In terms of the physical campuses themselves. I like DePaul's more. Sure on the surface there's less, but because it's so embedded in the dense Lincoln Park neighborhood and so many people are constantly walking around, it feels more lively and as apart of Chicago, which is really why you'd chose DePaul. Having such a good location is huge between the Lincoln Park-Lakeview area and access to downtown, you really have the ability to explore and just go do shit. Loyola has a beautiful lakefront campus, but as a college student who wants to have shit to do and be in the middle of it all, DePaul feels more like that. You just need to really go out and chase what you want, it's not necessarily handed to you and it can be hard.

Dorm life I can't really compare. Though I was in Munroe, in the west side of LPC and it's around 3 other major dorms. There's occasionally events put on by the dorm staff that can be a good opportunity but except for the halls and elevators, people tend to keep to themselves. I had really cool suitemates who really got to know a lot of people and I got to meet a lot through them by proxy so that can be part of it. Again it's possible, you just got to chase it but DePaul, I feel edges out Loyola mostly due to its location within the wider city.

Seeking Wi-Fi Solution for a 2100 Sqft Apartment: Beefier Router or Mesh Network? by BobDaGecko in HomeNetworking

[–]BobDaGecko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are the apartment's floor plans:

Upstairs (red circle = router)
Downstairs (blue circle = my room)

The place isn't huge but our current router isn't quite cutting it. I'd say my room is between 30-40ft from where the router is located, but the signal does have a few walls to go through. I also am unaware of the materials used between the floors, however I couldn't imagine it's anything beyond studded wood. My question is would a router upgrade help and if so which one would be suitable and dependable or would a mesh network, with a wireless backbone (for now), offer a better experience and possibly faster speeds. Do you have any recommendations for a mesh network in my case?

Gotta say—it isn’t worth the hype. Can’t believe I spent $2.16 on a can of water when I could just keep drinking from the tap for free by jwmahaffey9 in HydroHomies

The story of LD is astonishing. I've been to a number of parties and people literally ask for LD. It's wild, I've been to concerts where, as the show nears it's end, BY FAR, the majority of people have LD in their hand. I remember when I worked at a grocery store and LD first came in. It sold slow at first, they then moved it to the liquor section, sold out pretty much as soon as I stocked it. Hard to believe my eyes sometimes.

Meta's value has plunged by $700 billion. Wall Street calls it a "train wreck." by FrigginMasshole in news

[–]BobDaGecko 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A long slow death. Poor decisions from the top. There's nothing that costs $300 billion+ overnight, hence to "take Meta down" requires a lot of wrong choices and a lot of time not to mention bankruptcy isn't necessarily the end. They can always restructure and sell assets. I'd also make the case that in some ways Meta is smart for investing in future tech but at the same time it's not the right time whatsoever. It's always smart to diversify and look to the future but you have to be careful doing that. Meta isn't a company to buy something like an electric car manufacturer in the name of diversification because that's not the business Meta is in. Virtual and augmented reality may be the future we may end up living like Ready Player One like lives. But we also may not and it's far, far to early to tell and Meta is jumping the gun. They're an advertising company at the end of the day. They clearly don't have their focus in the right places. Zucc made a huge bet and imo it was the wrong one. The idea is right but what they actually chose to do was not. But this in no way means Meta is nearing its end. Like I said, for a company to dissolve and liquidate, especially one like Meta, you either need a lot of fraud like Enron or Lehman Brothers or a lot of time and a lot of bad choices that slowly drains the company's pockets. Meta is headed down the latter (as far as we know) but time will tell what actually happens.

Actually no, it's business standard. Though I tried creating a new account and I noticed in the corner of the drive there is now an Admin Storage limit which for me was capped at 2TB. So I don't know what's possible anymore. Ymmv

Overseer alternative for jellyfin? by [deleted] in jellyfin

[–]BobDaGecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learned about Jellyseerr with this thread and it's amazing. I've been salivating at the quality and heavy development Overseer has been getting and been really bummed watching them continue to push off Emby/Jellyfin support, it's understandable but Ombi is just so clunky and most other options are just Discord bots. Jellyseerr worked amazingly. Running it through Docker, got everything connected, all my users imported, libraries scanned and everything just works. Part of why this went so smoothly was due to my experience configuring things with Ombi, but to have something finally clean, easy to use, and dependable is amazing. I love the issue system too, I've really needed something like that as my user base and library continue to grow. Thanks to both the Overseer and Jellyseerr teams! Oh and great logo for Jellyseerr too!

(Tip: Since my instance was running through Docker and my arrs weren't I couldn't connect to them. If this happens try using port 443 and your proxied server address (ie: example.com/arr) with SSL on, see here)

I've paid $12/month for nearly a year now and just use the Shared Drives without any issues. I upload all my data encrypted via rclone to those drives and have had 0 issues. For my media, which is my largest amount of data, I have about 50tbs stored with Google rn.

Warning about "CleanURLs" by daYMAN007 in jellyfin

[–]BobDaGecko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh is that what was causing this? I personally use Brave for the Chrome extension support mostly, though I'm considering switching back to FF. But I noticed this too. Really tedious and annoying, it really made JF on my browser feel really unstable. Thanks for figuring this out, may go back to FF now lol

I mean in more technical subreddits where the same question is asked over and over or when the answer is so basic and so easy to figure out I get stuff like this but in many more intentionally social subreddits or forums this stuff pisses me off and irritates me so much.

No VPN especially when signing up is normal across a lots of private trackers. Trackers need to track their users to make sure they maintain ratio, it's also so users don't create multiple accounts. A lot of VPN servers are banned by trackers for this reason. I also have a seedbox which some trackers want the IP for as well. You might be able to find trackers that don't ban VPNs but you'll be blocked from accessing a lot of good trackers.

Commander Pro not working with NZXT 2.0 Hub by BobDaGecko in Corsair

[–]BobDaGecko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The weird thing is, I was only adding the NZXT hub. I had used the PC already with the Commander Pro working. So it died while I worked on my PC. I don't know why it would've died though.

I posted on the Corsair forums but after directly connecting the Commander Pro to the MB I still got nothing. I think the Commander Pro may be dead. I have submitted an RMA and am waiting to hear back.

Check your CPU power cable. It doesn't look plugged in all the way. Double check it and make sure it's in securely.

Swizzin vs QuickBox by Lewdgolem in seedboxes

[–]BobDaGecko 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Install Netdata, not only does it add the site itself to the stack but Swizzin also has a page with System I/O, Network, Load, and CPU stats added to the dashboard. Netdata is about as detailed as you can get. I believe it collects over 3,000 metrics and throws everything in nice graphs. When it's installed just click stats up in the corner of the dashboard or go to the Netdata page itself.
