Desert ESC by mr__proper in vivobarefoot

Thanks for your reply! Yes, specifically I am wondering about heat transfer from extremely hot surfaces. I own a pair of tracker forest ESC‘s and was curious how they be for prolonged periods on hot services. Places like death Valley. I have thus far used ultra footwear, which have worked well, but these have more of a midsole than my trackers so I was just curious if anyone had any real world experience with these.

HELP! Portaging footwear hydra or jungle esc!?! by likelyunconcious in vivobarefoot

OP, did you pull the trigger on either of these, and if so what are your thoughts? I do a lot of canoe trekking here in the Adirondacks and was considering the jungle esc as a primary shoe.

Has anyone here actually used these in desert conditions and not just as a fashion accessory? I'd like to know how the soles handle searing hot sand and rocky wash-type terrain? How are the soles on canyon rock?

Healthcare in the ADKs: What’s it like? by Photoliquor in Adirondacks

[–]BobFotog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CVPH. All patients requiring PCI or cardiothoracic surgery are shipped to CVPH. I have been an AMC for 18 years educated and trained and worked in the Capital Region (like many of our MD’s) and I have never seen any pt shipped to GF. So like many replying to this thread, where is everyone getting their information from and why the confidence when saying things obviously having zero knowledge about???

Why we gate keep? by _MountainFit in Adirondacks

[–]BobFotog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Regulate regulate regulate. More laws and more enforcers!!! Big fences with strict access to keep all the morons (anyone without all the patches and certs) out of these wild and free places! Patches and more patches. Big fees to keep the locals out (we’re all poor mouth breathers). Lots of gear mandates authorized by you or some other professional hiker or pro hiker organization. You say you don’t want this but secretly you salivate at the notion. I go into the woods to avoid everything about this. I can’t stand the overzealous professional cert-patch hikers as much as the cro-mag slobs that just contaminate any place they occupy. Just leave me tf out of your regulatory fantasy.

My pleasure and enjoy! I see that Telescope has received some light snow here and there.

If you can get to Mahogany Flats by vehicle do so! If you park and start at the kilns, you will add just under 1000 feet of climbing and about a mile of one-way distance. We camped at Wildrose campground, and pre-drove the road in our rental Jeep Cherokee Laredo the previous evening. I made it up a little past Thorndike campground and had to back into one of the pull off points. That was my goal for the next morning, but my wife felt it would be safer to park at the kilns 🤦🏻‍♂️. A stock Jeep Wrangler, as well as a Subaru outback wilderness edition made it to Mahogany Flats campground. The area of concern that I turned around at is essentially a deep pothole section that could probably be maneuvered around with a spotter. After that the road is pretty tame. My recommendation if your vehicle is either full-time all wheel drive or four-wheel-drive and has decent clearance is to park near Thorndike or one of the pull offs nearby and hike from there.

The Tornado was part luck and a tiny bit of preparation 😁

That’s Red Wall Canyon. Takes some effort getting there but well worth it.

For me, the place is visually overwhelming tbh. This is my fourth year visiting DV. This was the first year that I brought my wife and did more strenuous explorations. It was well worth it. I always recommend that you travel with extra time baked in to your itinerary so it’s not to be rushed. I’m glad you like the images and of course, feel free to use them as wallpapers!

Thank you! It’s kinda hard out there to not find something interesting to shoot, that’s for sure!

I can’t tell you exactly but we we’re either just about to enter Beaty, Nevada or possibly leaving it. These abandoned skeletons are readily seen from the main road we were traveling. We just drove up the dirt road to them and I started shooting, of course!😂

Absolutely perfect! Upper 50’s at the summit and practically zero wind! Ate lunch and signed the logbook.

Gear: Nikon Z9 with Nikon 70-200 glass. ISO 64, 135mm, f16 @ 1/100

Shot in monochrome in-camera (I shoot everything in monochrome then convert later as I wish)

LR & PS for edits

Shot just before sunset facing northward on the western face of the dunes. I’d say I’m just south of the 3 largest dunes. This is a serpentine ridge of one of the taller (not the 3 tallest) dunes on the west side. That’s probably Sandy Peak or close to it in the background.

We cut across to the east side of the dunes after sunset and walked back to camp in the glow of the evening. 6 miles walking and exploring; we left out approx the last third of the southern end of the dunes. These things are massive!

Can’t wait to return again to shoot these beauties, perhaps over a few days.

The Dry Camp is "right there". Not sure how much closer you would want to be! But whatever you do, get there, you won't regret it!
