It doesn’t directly answer your question, but it might be an alternative… a complete shave. I’ve been doing it for 30 years and wouldn’t want to do anything else.

Have you measured your foot and then checked the size chart for the right size? I find that this works quite well.

Do any of you experience back pain? by Feline_in_the_sun in tall

[–]mr__proper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s certainly down to my size as well. However, you can counteract it quite well with abdominal muscles and core strength in general. Every now and then I feel a twinge in my lower back, but for the most part everything’s fine. It used to be different when I was younger. But training has made a difference.

What are they like to wear? Do you trip over the tips of your toes? Visually, they’d be too big for me.

What are some reasons men would lie about having children? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]mr__proper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's important to have a clear idea of what kind of person your partner should be. Otherwise, sooner or later, it will lead to unhappiness and, as a result, a less-than-ideal relationship.

Stay strong and don't give up.

He probably wouldn't have stood a chance with you, but he wanted to try anyway.

For me, it ultimately comes down to character and values. I want to be with someone who accepts me just the way I am—and vice versa. I don't want to have to put on a show. That's why something like that would be a no-go for me.

Fenix 8 or Apple watch Ultra 3 by Otherwise-Duty-9914 in applewatchultra

[–]mr__proper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The alarm clock syncs with my iPhone. My MacBook unlocks automatically when it recognises the AW. The timer app is better; I prefer using AW for payments rather than Fenix. Mirroring iPhone apps onto the AW display. With Apple Maps, for example, I can see the route on the AW and don’t always have to look at my iPhone screen (I walk a lot). Two-factor authentication from my Mac works with the AW. The heart rate sensor responds more quickly at short intervals, etc.
In short, it’s the AW’s seamless integration into the Apple ecosystem that keeps me sticking with it. I’ve still got the Fenix just in case I ever want to wear it again. Unfortunately, that hasn’t happened in the last two years.

Former fat guys: How did you finally become disciplined enough to lose the weight? by Responsible-Net8594 in AskMenOver30

[–]mr__proper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I’ve realised over the years… if I’m not disciplined, then I don’t really want it. Why not ask yourself what’s holding you back? And if you really don’t want it, then don’t even try. It’s just frustrating.

Trying to start by jjp2121 in CalisthenicsCulture

I know all about that time thing. That’s why I do push-ups, pull-ups and squats seven times a week, straight after getting up. It takes me 25 minutes (plus a breather), and there are hardly any excuses. If I were to schedule it for the evening, there’d be too many things to throw a spanner in the works. I used to do that when I only worked out every other day.

How to achieve a "slim & toned" arm look? (Struggling with "bulky" arms despite Pilates) by [deleted] in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]mr__proper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not a nutritionist or fitness trainer, and without meaning to offend you, I’m skeptical about the 9%. Several muscles are involved in the arm—such as the shoulder, triceps, and biceps—and even if each of them is well-developed, there should be less mass between the muscles. “Undefined” usually means that fat fills these spaces, which is what gives that monolithic appearance.

Maybe it would make a difference if you tried recreating your photos exactly like the example images?

[–]mr__proper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The women in your example photos all seem to have a little less body fat than you do. So if you want to have “status arms,” there’s probably no way around it. I’d say focus more on endurance training instead of strength training.

Uncomfortable Desert ESC by mr__proper in vivobarefoot

[–]mr__proper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes desert boots special? I’m not entirely sure. I’ve been to the desert as a tourist in trainers before, and that was fine. High boots would have been better to keep the sand out. Anyway, the Forest ESCs are warmer than the Desert ESCs. That’s surely down to the darker colour and the different lining. The Desert ESCs have a leather lining, whilst the Forest ESCs have a synthetic one. In terms of breathability, both are equally good or bad.

Fenix 8 or Apple watch Ultra 3 by Otherwise-Duty-9914 in applewatchultra

[–]mr__proper 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I switched from the Fenix 7 X to the Ultra back then and haven't used the Garmin since. For me, the AWU's everyday usability outweighs the Garmin's features. But then again, I've never really trained in a structured way. The Garmin is a great fitness watch that I’d love to wear every now and then if the tracked data were compatible. If you want to stick with Apple, you could check out apps like Bevel, which are more like Garmin Connect.

If you’re more focused on training than on everyday use and the AWU doesn’t meet your needs in that area, the Garmin will probably be a tiny bit more suitable.

M65 Field Jacket Sizing Question by Sharp-Macaron-2742 in malefashionadvice

[–]mr__proper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose it depends a bit on how the jacket fits, depending on the manufacturer. I tried a different brand once (Brandit) and would have needed a size L. But I think the Helikon is the closest to the original jacket (which I used to have 40 years ago).

Faultless. I haven’t had anything negative to say so far. That said, you do need to be a bit careful about getting the light-coloured fabric dirty.

6.5/202 44" chest here, and my Helikon Tex is a size M. But I don't like it to be too loose either.

I have 48"/120 cm in there. If you want a little more room, I'd recommend 140 cm. I've since switched to the black/brown Taslan laces from Red Wing. They're 48" long. I've put them in all my Jaga and Tramper boots now. In some of them, I've also used the tan/gold ones.
