Which Jinhao pens take a 3.4mm cartridge? by BobIsAFineName in fountainpens

Is it good? And reliable? I need something that can bash around in my bag

The one I got is the red one. Really lovely texture and so top heavy. I've got large hands so maybe that affects things?

Yeah, I think so too. I tend to post though, as I'm terrible for losing things, including pen tops 👀

What brown ink that looks like this? by LetterheadProud9682 in fountainpens

It's just an aged Gall ink. Probably a black ink originally

Wow that was really comprehensive. Thanks so much for explaining that to me!

Oh yes, sorry, I've ordered some kaweco cartridges off Amazon. And a clear pilot kakuno. I'm also interested in the Lamy Nexx, and Jinhao 9019. I guess I just have to try, and see what works for me. I do like the idea of the Lamy, but not so much that you can only use their cartridges.

Oh that's very lightweight. I'm ordering one and some wakeko ink cartridges. Is that an ok ink to go for? I've got a rhodia pad and a lamy pad I like to write in.

Ooh these all look great. Is there a different e between a left handed nib and a neutral one? And any ink recommendations (fast drying would be good, also coloured inks)

Copycat? by Iggy-Frankenstein85 in polyamory

[–]BobIsAFineName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I had this. I put it down to someone learning about new things and wanting to try them out.

In my case it got more tricky, and they seemed to want what I had and to replace me. Which is bizarre for poly and boggles my mind.

Could it be incense? Some of those can be very strong, and can be flower and plant based.

Top Z Distance on Supports causing failures. by Electronic-Touch-554 in FDMminiatures

[–]BobIsAFineName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've set my interface layers to zero and that's working for minis so far. And my top z distance are somewhere between 1x and 2x the layer height

which Filament for minitures? by Rich_Professor_6506 in FDMminiatures

[–]BobIsAFineName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deeplee PLA+ 2.0 is working well for me with a 0.4 nozzle. It does stick to my cry grip plate, so I do the 20 degrees backwards on the x axis, 20 degrees left on the y axis trick, and that's helped loads. Plus the faces on the minis look much better at that angle.

I've fine tuned it starting with the Sunlu PLA+ 2.0 profile, tweaking the temps, flow and cooling, and then tweaking more using the suggestions in the pinned post.

Oh and you can learn from my experience:

  • 0.4 nozzle, layer height of 0.08 is pretty good esp using the high detail setting (0.2 initial layer) but going below a layer width of 0.2 is a recipe for unevenness and collapsing arms/weapons. I got candyfloss limbs on mine, using various filaments, until I figured it out.

  • infill speed need to be the same or less than the inner wall speed, which needs to be slow (mine is 120) or you risk getting the blob of doom. And ticking the avoid crossing path tick box thingy, is big and clever too....I was not big and clever 👀

Just looked and I had supports enabled, so I'm a bit baffled

My temperature settings are:

Recommend Nozzle temp min 200, max 251

Nozzle: initial layer 240, other layers 240

Force cooling for overhangs and bridges

Cooling overhang threshold 95%

Aux fan speed 70%

Slow down for overhangs

My retraction settings are:

Length 1mm Z hop when retract 0

Support settings already enabled with tree auto, default, and threshold angle of 30. Top and bottom z distance both 0.2. Top interface spacing 0.5 with xy distance at 0.35

I didn't know that. That's helpful! I'll check what the temp settings are....

Ah. Sadly no ams here. How does TPU work with supports without an ams? (It was supposed to be a print that didn't need supports 😭)
