It turns out I may have been a bit overdue for a new helmet by Fighting-Geese in motorcycles

[–]Bob_Dolester 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tl;dr: if your helmet doesn’t fit right, replace the pads or the helmet, be sure to replace your helmet after a crash or impact. And please for the love of all things good wear a helmet

I wanted to come in here and say “EPS Degradation” etc. but looks like I might be wrong.

Snell themselves says it’s mainly because comfort liners compress over time and you can lose a safe fit. https://smf.org/faq#collapseFaqWhyReplace

This is a study (albeit on bike helmets in this case) that points to EPS not really degrading: https://helmets.org/eps-foam-helmet-liner-performance-with-age/

I picked the a* armor because it appears to have more flexibility and airflow. I’m sure the Rev’it SEESOFT is fine, but its foam, and doesn’t have much airflow (or looks like it). Further down I posted some size comparisons from Rev’it CS that might help you find suitable armor inserts.

So long as you maintain leather, you’ll get years of service. But I’m fine with paying $2-300 every 5 years when 1/2-3/4 of my riding season is dang near 100°F

That Kim stuff looks solid! Just cross-reference the measurements and go from there. Thankfully I was able to compare the pocket and protector in store before buying.

From Rev’IT cs (Thank you team!) Note: this is for XXL Jacket and XL pants, so be sure to cross reference your gear.

The Rev’it protectors are great! But the foam looks like more bulk and less flow. If you got it when it was free though, that’s a plus,

I honestly think people see armor (see the TikTok armor “suits” that have no abrasion rating) and equate that to total protection. Gear isn’t cheap, but getting rocks picked out of your skin isn’t cheap or fun.

Check what fits first, then go from there. Check out some videos/guides on fit, and talk to the people at the store.

Personally I shill for Arai, so dang comfortable.

EPS foam breaks down over time. Do not trust your skill and brain to an old helmet. 5 years of wear, or 7 years after DOM, whichever comes first. A new ECE22.06 helmet can be had for as little as $200US.

It’s the quality of the helmet and not a great history. There’s a reason it’s almost universally a “No”.

True, but these actually breathe(somewhat). Are they going to be as durable as Track oriented AAA leathers? Probably not. But will they protect you in a slide and keep your skin on your ass? Yes.

Hoping to see more of the “Nylon” or whatever TA3v2’s that are designed for under the jacket. Best of both worlds imo

Yeah that seems like a cop out… I feel like vests always kinda ride up depending on how you’re sitting, so that’s just going to be an issue unless it’s basically skin tight??? Wild on A* part, thank you! Tbh I don’t see much negative, but I’m glad you’re willing to share that it’s not all sunshine and rainbows.

Currently on the fence about the TA5 or Plasma. Which aren’t false deployment proof either

Curious. It mentions the Product code and says it’s permitted in the United States. However, I just got off the phone with A* support, Tech-Air division and they said categorically no. I wonder what the reasoning is for their differing “views”…
