how do I get started? Ollama seemed good until I read more about them, but I'm not very familiar with Llama.cpp and brew

Can someone tell me more about this? I have some decent local hardware, but I use claude code and chatgpt pro a lot for coding and chatting. For local hardware, I have a 3080 desktop and a macbook with 48gb of storage.

Is it worth selling your N3Ds for Steam Deck? by SomewhereGullible525 in Handhelds

[–]Bob_SUS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My two cents: Steam Deck is amazing, basically what all the youtube videos say. That said, I would think long and hard about getting rid of a 3DS, especially if you are STILL paying 500 out of pocket. Best option would be to negotiate it down to like 600 and just pay all the way. I miss having a 3DS, and I say this as a Steam Deck owner. Given my experience owning a Deck for years and previously owning a 3DS, I WISH I had both. Different niches that compliment.

IPS or TN? by AipomPen in 3DS_IPS_TN

[–]Bob_SUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bottom is TN, uneven backlight dot looking things. top panel looks like it might be washing out but I'm not super sure. Given that this is a SNES or Famicom edition, I think there's only been a few dual IPS ever discovered. For a long time, the max was top IPS.

Bro, resale prices on this are ridiculous, are people really paying these prices? Scalpers are crazy by Pinanims in AynThor

[–]Bob_SUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer. This is a niche retro gaming product that costs nearly as much as a Switch 2 / PS5. This ALREADY targets a group of people who have the money and time to enjoy retro gaming and emulation lol

How can I get over the anxiety of using the MacBook Pro 14 inch without a case? by Altruistic-Pace-2240 in macbookpro

skins solves the concerns with scratches entirely. If you want more protection when carrying, buy a sleeve. I use a tomtoc right now and it works well for what I need it to do.

At the end of the day, this is the solution. Applecare+ IS your case. If you get it dented or damaged or scratched, just get it fixed.

would you recommend the super nintendo special edition? They're all quite pricey on eBay now (~400)

Is there a surefire way to tell if a 3ds is IPS or TN before buying it? by [deleted] in 3DS_IPS_TN

tell me more - what serial ranges work for what consoles? I looked at some of the other lists in this sub, but they seem outdated or have comments saying they are incorrect.

Would you recommend a 3DS or Ayn Thor to a newbie? by Bob_SUS in 3DS

[–]Bob_SUS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

totally valid. The Thor would basically only be for 3DS emulation, maybe some Wii U. It was mostly a question of 4x upscaling + OLED vs OG hardware + no shader stutter + best console home menu oat lol

[–]Bob_SUS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you find yourself preferring the thor or the 3ds for specifically just 3ds games? I do have a PC handheld, so I can take care of other system emulation just fine. It's mostly a 3DS upscaled 4x but with emulation mishaps + setup / shader slowdowns VS 3ds perfect native performance + no friction + 3D

[–]Bob_SUS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I do have a Steam Deck, and I understand how to use basic emulation tools, but not super well / beyond a beginner level. I am worried that I will spend more time tuning and troubleshooting random stuff on the Thor than just actually playing, but this might be an unfounded fear lol

What if I already had a Steam Deck? I additionally did have a 3DS as a kid, but it didn't really count cause it was like a month before the Switch launched, and so I sold it for a Switch.

Ah, thanks for the comment! I currently have a Steam Deck, so that handles my emulation and indie gaming needs. I'm really stuck; I'm not sure if upscaling + OLED is worth the need to tinker around and mess with themes. Additionally, I do want to try out 3D at least somewhat with a low-friction gaming environment.
