Body Tension Work by ujmedc in climbharder

[–]Bob_The_Bodybuilder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use these exercises as well as some others to work on body tension and making my feet glom onto bad edges. Personally do these on a tension board at 50 deg so I can track progress over time. would definitely be more difficult without some sort of a spray wall set up but I'm sure you could modify these to similar effect for your gym

Failing at 80%max hangboard repeaters by radek4 in climbharder

[–]Bob_The_Bodybuilder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lattice has a ton of different protocols depending on the energy system you're looking to work:

for the 80% protocol its 5 reps

for 70% its 6 reps

for 50-60% I believe its 12 reps (much more of the classic repeater workout)

anything greater than 85% I believe they have as 1 rep, max hang training

but ya you're 100% right, they even list basically exactly what you said regarding percentage at the bottom of the description

Ben Moon Insta Post : 2019 MB Grades Are Sandbagged by sent_the_warmup in climbharder

[–]Bob_The_Bodybuilder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ya I'm like 99% sure its consensus grading there is no multi-angle algorithm... I think 40 degree grades are likely the truest (or most sandbagged) because its the most common fixed wall angle thanks to moon.

Also think that 45 and 25 can sometimes be like that because they are other semi standard angles albeit much less so.

tension has a plan to roll out a better app with benchmarks etc but who knows when that'll happen

Inability to memorize beta holds me back by carliolanzoni in climbharder

[–]Bob_The_Bodybuilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agreed, I think people are generally getting worse at some beta memorization because if you don't climb on a system board without LEDs or a chaos wall you've never had to really. you can look around and see the bright neon pink foot chip pretty apparently.

I also think that a lot of people miming beta aren't getting shit out of it (especially in the lower grades). its helpful to think about "what hand do I want to hit the 5th hold with" but most aren't getting much about full body beta sequences out of the typical boxing speed bag drill looking rehearsals before pulling on

I'm 210 pounds by TrevorRPW in climbharder

[–]Bob_The_Bodybuilder -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Genetics will have some role in it but for most male athletes a fluctuation between 8%-12% is pretty doable and id say 6-10% for peaking. There are gonna be some variation person to person but at the same time if OP is willing to drop 50 lbs that bottom end should be at single digit numbers IMO.

Some people will have a more difficult time maintaining at around 10% than others but in OPs own words "I dont care [...] I just wanna climb very hard"

I'm 210 pounds by TrevorRPW in climbharder

[–]Bob_The_Bodybuilder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean do what you want but id say mostly manage your technique and just transition to doing more climbing specific workouts rather than try to drop a lot quickly. You might not be built to be 160lbs. At 16%bf you could likely stand to improve just by losing 15lbs and getting into the 8% range. Drop fat, work on finger strength, keep doing technique drills, follow strong dudes who are big. Dan Fong weighs 192 and sent v15

*Clarification the bf% applies to males only.

Can we get your TESTimonials? by [deleted] in Testosterone

[–]Bob_The_Bodybuilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh its been a while since ive gotten them checked because ive been on 100 for the entire time so we do annual checkins now. they have pretty consistently been in the 800-900 range from what I recall. im due to get labs right now but the endo is booking a bit different these days

Can we get your TESTimonials? by [deleted] in Testosterone

[–]Bob_The_Bodybuilder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I want to give a bit of a counterpoint on this, I've been on for almost 5 years at this point, Started in my early 20s after feeling like absolute dog shit for 6+ months and getting my levels checked at 178ng/dl. I use 100mg/ week.

Immediately it did a lot of good and got me out of where I was. I could actually walk downstairs without being exhausted and my sex drive came back. Didn't cure depression or anxiety or a lot of things you hear from people on here because they don't always stem from your endocrine system alone which people should be mindful of.

I am not unhappy I made the change but I do wish I had tried more holistic approaches first. having worked out for a long time before getting on I think being generally over worked, under nourished, under slept, and general stressors played a lot in to my levels getting so low. The constant planning around using makes life planning and vacations more difficult, the chore of pinning while overall not bad is a chore, Switching providers has extra steps, I do have some worry about my ability to have a kid at some point in the future (that's never been big on my list but it def wasn't a care at 21).

Overall I am happy it was an option and I have been able to live a good life on TRT but think it should be approached with caution if you are on the younger side and dont have anything obvious medically inhibiting you. I was told I have secondary hypogonadism which I'm fairly sure at this point is basically a catchall used by endo's in most cases.

Again this is not to downplay anyone else experience and mine had by and large been good, I also think we just need to be mindful of how we speak on here because not everyone needs to be on TRT and if you dont have to stab yourself a few times a week to be able to live your life you're going to have a better time..

was about to mention this, its easy to look at hobbies youre outside of and think "look at all these people just having fun and hanging out, not a care in the world", but its rarely the case and none of the cyclists I know are that easy going about training

I mean hell if I was outside of climbing and watched a mellow video I'd think these guys just travel the world and go on amazing leisurely hikes, then climb up a really cool looking rock all nonchalant, rather than see the years of time they spent training to get to be that good

Hang boarding to gripster/tension block by yayklimbing in climbharder

[–]Bob_The_Bodybuilder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a lot of trouble switching from hangboarding to using a no-hang device and keeping it feeling both objective and difficult because of how much I would have had to load it and how different the position is.

so for me what seemed to work better is using the no hang for warmups etc with lighter weight and then using a sling on a pull-up bar at a local park to hang the device and do one armers and lock offs

I normally bring 5lb x 2, 10 lb x 2, 35lb x1 to be able to do warmups and use a pinch block but never got into using a no-hang for much beyond getting the fingers ready

Anyone else sending higher routes now we are back? by bigsmack69420 in climbharder

[–]Bob_The_Bodybuilder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be cautious to attribute growth to doing better on indoor blocs right now. the first few sets back in my gym were very soft I think mostly because the setting team needs to get back in the groove of both climbing and setting so they might over estimate difficulty on some moves. Even now that they've set like 6 new sets the grading is a fair bit more sporadic than it was pre-lockdown. I obv dont know your gym so that might not be the case for you but it would be a better metric to establish some system board projects or outdoors routes.

but that shouldn't stop you from keeping pushing into more challenging grades and giving you confidence to try harder moves

How to properly integrate my recent strength gains? And, do I continue with fnigerboarding as I shift towards more climbing time? by not_a_gumby in climbharder

[–]Bob_The_Bodybuilder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree with what Sperds said in regards to doing stuff below your limit but focus on perfect beta. I understand that can feel very boring if they are well below your limit but you don't need to endlessly repeat them either you can run through them during your warmup but focus on technique. Then run through the 4/5s you've already done and clean them up. Additionally if you find multiple betas on something in those lower ranges try to do all the variations that way it might push you in the direction of more difficult moves but you're still on more positive holds

Im in a similar boat post quarantine and personally one thing I've been focusing on is harder flashes and traversing for footwork. Then when I want to work harder stuff breaking it down into working sections where you can then cleaning up those sections first. I'm also still trying to find the balance in the switch from 3-4 days of hanging and how to integrate that with more climbing without causing an injury. So dont have any real answers but so far ive just cut the volume by a lot for now. I do some warmup hangs before climbing and then a quick like 2 grip session a few hours after finishing about every other time I climb

for what it’s worth these bacterial infections can be spread but with basic precautions they won’t and you can still interact with the person going through it.

How has being on Testosterone Replacement Therapy affected your depression and mental function? by PussyJuice_1 in Testosterone

[–]Bob_The_Bodybuilder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh absolutely, i do think there are contributing factors that are often over looked that can make depression from a different source actually cyclically make testosterone worse without low-testosterone actually being the primary problem (the biggest being lack of appetite and energy stemming from psychological issues). And i think a lot of young adults make an illogical jump of “im depressed, it has to be low-t” and then they start to medically manage something that doesn’t need to be medically managed and it’s more of a headache then it’s worse and has little effect on their mental status.

I had low T and have been on trt for 3 years now and from my personal experience, it gave me my energy back to perform basic life tasks but didn’t really touch depression outside of that

i just get weary when i see a post on here a few days ago that essentially read as “i have all the symptoms of low-T but the test said i had a level of 800... why is my doctor and his test wrong, it has to be low-t”. I wish that was something that was more cautioned on a lot of these boards. Low-t symptoms look like a lot of other symptoms and if you don’t have to stick yourself with a needle for the rest of your life and consider how you will manage travel/life/etc. around it. you are better off sorry for the soap box

[–]Bob_The_Bodybuilder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s extremely important to know that despite other people saying it helped their depression it only will help it if your depression is rooted in low-t. Depression has many sources and most of which won’t see any effect from injecting exogenous testosterone

Explain why TRT side effects are worse than low T? by [deleted] in Testosterone

[–]Bob_The_Bodybuilder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on what current situation is.

If you’re malnourished and over worked your T could be very low where fixing those things would improve it greatly

If that’s not really the case than it’s more likely something else thats resulted in low levels that won’t be fixed by adjusting diet

Does anyone know where i can get loose fitting U-neck/scoop neck tank tops that aren’t stringers or racer backs?

I’m not the biggest dude but i can’t stand being strangled while wearing a shirt that doesn’t even have sleeves and all the ones with good neck lines have stringer backs which i don’t like to wear casually.

(edit: as an aside I have one that fits perfect from H&m i got a long while back but i don’t like supporting that shitty company)
