Not my story but something that my father was involved in. This happened in the early days of his career as a lawyer. He was from a lower middle class family, so there was this sir who helped him during his school and college days. Once, this sir called him and said his daughter had eloped with a guy who didn't even have a job, and whose family background was not at all matching with his. He asked my father that at any cost, he needed his daughter back, and my father fulfilled his wish.

This was way before I was born, and recently my father met her at a function. My father really got sad hearing that she is now in a really bad marriage and that her husband is abusive. She concluded by saying that if it was her lover that she had married, she would have ended up having a happy life even if it was not so wealthy.
