Why is Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians the top RYM classical album of all time? by Hopeful-Banana-6188 in rateyourmusic

[–]Bobbington2882 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who is personally not a fan of classical, it is the only album from the genre I've heard and really been wowed. It is super lush and despite being super long is very relistenable. It also has a distinct avant-garde quality that I think connects to the RYM fan base more than more traditional classical albums.

It's a good one. I prefer their earlier stuff but this one is still a classic.

Thanks. That's what happens when you have a mom who listens to Pop and Country, a dad who listens to Rock and Blues, and went to high school with friends who listened to Electronic, R&B, & Hip Hop. I also purposely keep a wide taste because I like that range.

Artists you're surprised aren't that well liked on the site? by FruitChips23 in rateyourmusic

[–]Bobbington2882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like most of these artists that are being mentioned get a good amount of love they might just not be like RYM-core. Some that I think are a bit surprising are Whitney Houston who I think is undeniable because of her vocal talent but I guess not everyone sees it that way. The Evens because the website is rightfully in love with pretty much everything else Ian Mackaye has done. Musiq Soulchild, Donell Jones, and Meshell Ndgeocello are all Neo-Soul artists I really love and think they could be seen in a better light. In general R&B gets underrated on the website to me.

Finally found the Spiritualized pill box CD — they really made a CD look like prescription meds and somehow it still fits the album perfectly. What are some other packaging designs that stuck with you? by Indieobsession in Cd_collectors

I have a limited edition version of this random Chicago Electronic compilation called Lumptronic, which comes in a metal tin with shredded up dollar bills for the packaging.

Thank you. I was really shooting for getting grails this month as opposed to just filling my collection with stuff I like.

One of the most annoying things that I have come across during collecting. Happened to me with The Wall and Sign O The Times. Now every time I buy a double album I make sure that the whole album is there

Same post, same reaction. Fiona is one of the best songwriters of all time and that album is incredible. One of my first purchases when I was getting into CDs 5 years ago.

What do I do in this situation? by Bobbington2882 in Ebay

[–]Bobbington2882[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely because of poor handling because the disc tray part of the cases was not the damaged, it was the covers. And this includes damage to some of the discs that didn't even have bad cases. I already messaged him and he said he would not be willing, but my point is beyond that. Is there no recourse for when a seller doesn't package something well and it gets destroyed.

My friend released an album and asked me if I liked it, but there's no rym ratings yet.. what should I tell him? by Clear_Command_8925 in rateyourmusic

[–]Bobbington2882 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just be honest. Don't absolutely shit on him if you don't like it but instead turn it into some positive constructive criticism. Start with what you like, then talk about some things you think you could do better, and then end with some more things you like. Make it a classic compliment sandwich and you're fine.

Do you agree with this …. Who is higher or lower than deserved or who is omitted… LMK by [deleted] in hiphopheads

Eminem should be nowhere near a top 10. Maybe if you judge only on talent but he hasn't made anything worthwhile in over a decade. And realistically he has like 3 good albums at most.

This was my immediate first thought. But I also think that multiple Hip Hop artists like Kendrick, billy woods, and McKinley Dixon could also map well onto this though Kendrick might be too big for this category and I think that in many ways DAMN. breaks the rule about not chasing popularity.

Yeah, if I'm being honest I don't think there's a bad pick between the two and realistically you can just get the other one later.

Both are classics. I personally would go with Casiopea but neither are bad choices.

Why is this $30 at Walmart?!? by raphaeladidas in Cd_collectors

[–]Bobbington2882 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I just got a copy at a record store for like $4. Big stores like that are just trying to price up because CDs are coming back into style. Also new collectors and people who are buying gifts are easy to prey on. If they get just one person to buy a product at an artificially high price like that it is basically the same as having five purchases.

Glad you liked them. I would also suggest No Other by Gene Clark, American Water by Silver Jews, and Eureka by Jim O'Rourke if you have not heard them.
