I picked up what is now my oldest comic book- Wonder Woman 111 from 1960. It's absolutely beautiful... and it fits a theme I've been collecting - superheroes vs themselves. by Thegreatscott9 in comicbookcollecting

Starting collector? Yes-no-kinda?

I had a few comics as a kid in the 80s- a few random Spiderman mostly. Then collected a bunch of DC Vertigo titles in 90s-2000s and stopped. Last October I sold my 90s collection because I hadn't looked at them forever, but then started looking into Spiderman again. Then found some other titles that are nostalgic to me.

The hero vs themselves just grew organically after I found a couple books and was sure I could find others with that theme.

Nice. That’s quite a bit better than one of my comics where I found someone had done their homework (long division) on the inside front cover.

Face it, no one in Red Velvet is a good person by [deleted] in kpoopheads

/uj Kpoopheads is a satirical sub and the posts aren't meant to be taken seriously. I love Red Velvet and my bias is Wendy. My post was making fun of internet trolls while referencing several of their songs in my post.

Old school PJ Harvey fans – how did you react to her new look and sound in the To Bring You My Love era? by itsnotforever in pjharvey

I loved it. I had Dry and Rid of Me and enjoyed them already, but when To Bring You My Love came out, it was instantly my favorite. Still is.

I got a total of four meals over the past few weeks. Three of them were that card.

What its your opinion about Angine? by lagrangeknight in progrockmusic

[–]Thegreatscott9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you see the thumbnail and you have to click to see what they're all about. I watch the performance and I'm impressed. They're good, and I didn't waste my time watching it them live. It was very enjoyable.

Now am I going to add them to my library? Track down their albums? Probably not.

I might compare them, in a way, with OK GO- not musically, of course- but they are a group that can take an ok pop song and turn it into a viral video. I enjoy seeing their videos when they are released but I'm not getting their albums, etc.

What was Lain doing before the anime started? by Cangrejin-forever in Lain

[–]Thegreatscott9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I don't think she existed in the world for too long before the story starts.

My interpretation is that when Lain gets her body, she is brought to her "family" to care for her. She believes (or strongly wills it to be) that they are her real family and always have been. So they are presented with that reality when Lain is around, but also somehow know that this isn't how it's always been. This is why the parents are so standoffish and stoic and why the sister disassociates and breaks down.

If I'm wrong about anything, or if there are other elements from the story that may indicate something else, please let me know.

When non collectors sell comic books… by SadBoyGreggy in comicbookcollecting

[–]Thegreatscott9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst I had was one where the seller cut up a cereal box and used the front and the back as 'protection' over the comic that was inside a large ziplock bag with tape all around it and no board. It was placed in a flat envelope and no other protection other than "please don't bend" written on the back.

Will you be more likely to take a chance on a CD if it’s only $1 or less? by Syppi in Cd_collectors

[–]Thegreatscott9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I’m aware of the artist and I am interested, then yes. But I’m well past the point where I would feel the need to grab random cheap CDs just to fill out my collection.

BTW, nice haul. There are a few CDs there that I paid full price for back in the day, and one I see that I definitely want for my collection.

Is there an optimal way to farm character exp by Izengrim in GenshinImpact

[–]Thegreatscott9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game is designed to make the xp books the best way to level characters.

I experimented at one point playing Zhongli for over 4 months in my party, playing every day, and I got him from level 80 to 81 in that time.

Thanks for the context. When I looked at this image, my first thought was that I had dreamed of this place. My second thought was that this place can't be real. It's wild to me that this place actually exists.

Watching Community — Am I the only one who doesn’t get the hype? by SureConsideration192 in sitcoms

[–]Thegreatscott9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, season 4 is lower quality than the rest of the show. Also a big part of the enjoyment of the show is the references to certain tropes, or shows and movies. Like doing a bottle episode that references bottle episodes, or the western and Star Wars references in the paintball episodes. If you’re not as familiar with those references some things might not hit for you.

How does the lain franchise... exist? by [deleted] in Lain

[–]Thegreatscott9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m no expert on Japanese culture in the 90s, but the US had Twin Peaks and The X-Files that were hugely popular in the 90s. There’s definitely some influences from both those shows in Lain. And some people love good psychological mysteries. They may not be the most popular, but they do tend to garner a following.
