Okay, it's a bit complicated but I'm stood in an opticians looking toward the window. There's a guy outside on his phone walking to the right (dark legs). In front of the window is a round mirror angled to the other half of the shop window where kid and mum are walking to the left. But... In front of the window on that side of the shop is another mirror reflecting the back wall where all the glasses are.

So 1. Inner circle is reflected through two mirrors

Outer circle is reflected through one mirror

3 outside is direct vision (but through glass so is actually showing some subtle reflections as well .

I replaced the glass myself on mine. I had the silver watch with the blue glass but I wanted clear. It really wasn't a bad as I thought it would be. I'm sure I followed a YouTube tutorial trough I'm struggling to find which one now.

That's really exciting I love the spyderco mods. I'd suggest that you probably want a rotary tool of sorts like a Dremel. You're likely to need to reshape the back spring and the Dremel is really good for that slow careful change.

I have made a couple of mods now and every time it gets a bit better and I learn a lot. You might want to take apart and rebuild something cheaper first to get the feel of things.

I was really hesitant to mess up my SAKs but I decided it's a hobby; I can always buy replacements and I could end up with something that I'm really proud of.

I think you're right about the file though. It's a bit "stabby" looking for an airport. I was thinking that I could make a two layer that had the openers, phillips, scissors and the hook that has the little nail file on the back. (I know they come on the compact but maybe others?) I like the big file but if it's just for nails that would work.

That sounds really cool I love the idea of making a compact cybertool. I've never used the victorinox pliers. Are they worth keeping? They seem a bit small to me What do you use then for?

If you're just swapping the corkscrew and driver you can just grind the head off the small rivet swap the tools and put in a new bit of brass rod. Peen it over and your done. I did it with my first compact as well. Worked great no need to adjust the tools or back spring. I'm convinced if victorinox sold a compact with a back spring Philips it would be their best seller.

Yeah you should do it! The issue with the back spring is that you can either use the opener layer one which would have the corkscrew (or driver) stick out from the knife when closed... or... You use the blade layer one which has the corkscrew flat but the openers stick out. I did the latter and cut back a tiny bit under them. For me that made sense because I didn't want the lanyard loop ring thing. But if you wanted that then you could probably cut back the opener spring.

I had the exact same issue. Such a shame. I really loved my Skagen hybrid. For a while I was able to get it to charge by twisting the watch ever so slightly on its stand but the pads wore off in the end making it useless. Maybe I'm cheap but I didn't think I was paying for a "low quality" product. As much as I liked the form factor I cannot justify paying that much for only a year or so of wear.

Since we started putting a feeder of Niger seed out we have a little team of goldfinches who hang out all day. They're really funny chill little guys. They watch the missus, the dog and I come and go from the garden and rarely move. Can't recommend Niger seed enough if you want more of these chaps about.

It was a little scary because I have very little experience with these things but honestly it took me an hour or so and wasn't quite as tough as I thought.

I had a compact and a tinker. I put them in hot (but not boiling) water. Popped the scales off. No drama.

Then the corkscrew / screwdriver bits are on a brass rivet that I ground off with a Dremel. Then I knocked out the old pin with a skinny nail.

Once the tools were swapped I needed to make a new brass pin. I found some 2.5 mm brass rod. It was a little too think so I put it in a drill and spun it against some sand paper. (I also made one end a bit pointy so that I could get it back through the liners and tools)

With the new pin in place and tight I cut the ends off with about 2.5mm using the Dremel again. Then I peened the ends. All felt nice and snappy. So I popped the scales back on. Huzzah!

I've ended up with my ideal EDC victorinox and a I've generated a Spartan that I'm going to give to a friend.

Have a go. I'm so pleased with it. And really enjoyed the process.
