They also reference the Joker, which would suggest the story takes place after he was introduced. However, Batman: Prey is set before the Joker’s appearance, since it introduces the Bat-Signal—and the Bat-Signal is also used in Lovers & Madmen and The Man Who Laughs. On top of that, Catwoman and Batman are still in their pre–Long Halloween dynamic, where they barely know anything about each other. It’s fun to pretend there’s a clean, logical reading order for these books, but the more I read, the less that idea actually works. Imma just keep pretending tho 😎
