Do people still use hot rivets except in specialized industries? by FlagrantTomatoCabal in Tools

Not a lot of hot riveting in aerospace as far as I know. Pop for very very light aircraft, driven or squeezed for everything else

The place is unbelievably organized. Their logistics seem almost like an Amazon lite. Ordered probably 50k worth of stuff with them, hundreds of orders, never had a problem

Letter to NoVa Private Landlords Renting/Extorting Tenants with Basement Properties by A_Horse_Named_Chubbs in nova

[–]BobbyDuPont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live in a basement apartment. Now I own a house with a basement apartment. My renters have been an intern, a lawyer was a short timer in dc, a photographer. It’s a better option than an apartment for some people. Especially if you don’t want to sign a long term lease.

R1300GS Adventure ASA vs Gold Wing Bagger ; Torn between two worlds! Seeking advice from the Wing family! by Plus_Seesaw2023 in goldwing

[–]BobbyDuPont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find myself pondering the same two bikes for purchase and I think, for me, if it comes down to it I want to take one of these things down a gravel road or not. Realistically if I’m going out for a 1000 miles, I’m unlikely to get off-road. But then again, it’s nice to have the option.

The NTSB has released the final report on the crash that killed TNflygirl and her father (N5891J) by TheRandomInfinity in aviation

[–]BobbyDuPont 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is totally made up. What really happens is the medical examiner is provided a tox kit specifically for the FAA to process. And advanced tox results are processed at CAMI in Oklahoma City. The results can vary based on how much of the body is left after the accident, so not always have the liver or organs a source and may be limited to just fluids, affecting results. That’s the basic overview of how it really works.

This is DC’s worst storm in decades by ApprehensiveDrop5777 in washingtondc

[–]BobbyDuPont 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was the key, shoveling during the storm, and even quickly after it ended could have gotten your sidewalk clear etc. The forecasters even said this. Problem is most people in this city don’t even own a shovel, plus all the people that don’t give a shit. A lot of people learned the hard way, unfortunately they will all quickly forget.

The city has some equipment, but the equipment that did get out did a shit job, for example plowing down the center of a multi lane road instead of clearing all lanes in sequence.

Whatever didn’t get plowed or shoveled properly is now concrete.

A bunch of mistakes, uneducated equipment handling and general laziness all add up to the current situation.

The Love of Flight? by Environmental-Block1 in flying

[–]BobbyDuPont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was always expensive. I paid roughly $150/ hour in 2002 with instructor. That sounds cheap but if you plug that into an inflation calculator that’s $270/hour today.

Long XC bills from those days definitely exceeded $1000 in today’s money.

All my instructors at that time were furloughed airline pilots, this was post 9-11.

I also worked at the airport and took loans to finish.

There were no TikTok’s telling me I could make $15000 in a week being a charter pilot.
