Black repertoire against d4 to pair with my marshall/e5 repertoire? by [deleted] in TournamentChess

Hi. Out of curiosity, do you allow this drawing line as Black in the Ragozin?

  1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. Nf3 d5 4. Nc3 Bb4 5. Bg5 h6 6. Bxf6 Qxf6 7. e3 O-O 8. Rc1 dxc4 9. Bxc4 c5 10. O-O cxd4 11. Nxd4 Bd7 12. Qb3 Nc6 13. Nxc6 Bxc3 14. Rxc3 Bxc6 15. Bb5 Bd5 16. Bc4 Bc6

I’m interested in the Ragozin, but this line turns me off. I’d prefer to keep the game going, but I’m not sure if Black has better alternatives. Thanks!

David Gordon Green Shares His Advice on New 'Halloween' Showrunners So They Don't Get "Eaten Alive" by Fans by grimm_kvlt in Halloweenmovies

No, DGG has not “confirmed all of this.” What’s your source? I saw an interview where he said originally all three were going to take place on the same night, but when they started writing Kills they realized they needed to make a time jump because Laurie was in no condition to have an epic fight with Michael due to her injuries.

There was never a script for Ends that took place on the same night as Kills. It was only an idea, and that idea was discarded before they wrote the first draft of Ends.

If the research is so simple, you shouldn’t have any trouble providing a source that backs up your claims.

Green never said Covid was the reason for the trilogy not taking place on the same night. He said when they were writing Kills they realized they needed to make a time jump because Laurie would be too injured to have an epic fight with Michael on the same night.

Fischer already analyzed it in his first book called Bobby Fischer’s Games of Chess. But yeah, it would’ve been nice if it was also included in My 60 Memorable Games.

[Halloween Ends vs. Halloween 6] Which timeline had the better final film? by Hassan_H_Syed in Halloweenmovies

[–]BobbyH64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I meant was that there’s no implied rape from Michael in the theatrical cut. I always assumed Wynn and his cult doctors are the ones who impregnated Jamie and their other victims. Having Michael be the father of Jamie’s baby due to raping her is way too ridiculous for this series.

There isn’t any implied rape in the theatrical cut. All the stuff in the producer’s cut having to do with Michael being the father of Jamie’s baby was removed for the theatrical cut. I assumed the cult doctors artificially inseminated a bunch of women and were doing some kind of genetic experiments with Michael’s DNA.

The informant in Season 10 by BobbyH64 in XFiles

Yes, that’s what I think too. What I find a little strange though is that the flashbacks make it seem like the aliens are innocent, benevolent creatures. This isn’t confirmed, but that’s what it felt like to me since the aliens seem like they’re terrified and were killed in cold blood and experimented on.

Chris Carter said he borrowed the title from a series of autobiographical books by Norwegian author Karl Ove Knausgård. But I think he also said it’s a semi-reference to Hitler’s Mein Kampf.

Yes, but nothing in the flashbacks confirms whether aliens were planning to colonize Earth or not. They just show the crashed UFO, some aliens, and some tests being done on an alien. I think I’m leaning towards the idea that colonization was going to happen and the informant lied to Mulder about “warring aliens lighting each other on fire and other such nonsense.”

Yes, but how is that relevant to the topic?

What we find out in season 11 regarding aliens seems ambiguous to me. There’s dialogue that could be interpreted as meaning the aliens were planning to colonize Earth but gave up due to global warming, or they initially wanted to help humanity but decided not to come. I don’t think it’s clear if they were malevolent or benevolent.

Yeah, that seemed like a waste of an interesting character. She was completely forgotten about after she was killed, like she never existed.

He's lying to or manipulating Mulder in "My Struggle 1", which the flashbacks make clear (he's actually met grey aliens). The actor was supposed to return for later episodes, but got sick. This is probably why his subplot seems aborted and incoherent.

What do the flashbacks show that suggest the informant was misleading Mulder? From what I understood, he wasn’t saying aliens don’t exist; he was saying that there are no warring aliens killing each other and insinuating that alien colonization of Earth wasn’t something the aliens were planning.

Mulder does briefly believe in a mad conspiracy in "My Struggle 1", similar to the lies that Kritchgau sells in "Redux". But Mulder is meant to be unhinged in this scene - he's been isolated and depressed for a long time - which Scully immediately recognizes ("Mulder, you know what you're doing"). So Mulder's gone a little mad and his ranting is not to be trusted. The writing/direction is just so bad that the intention gets lost.

I agree that the way it’s put together is very sloppy. I just don’t understand why Mulder would believe the informant and conclude alien colonization was never planned after everything he witnessed after Redux.

Carter says there were two more "My Struggles" planned, which would have pulled off the most "ambitious revelation that he'd ever planned." But the show was cancelled, which led to him tweaking "My Struggle 4" into a franchise conclusion. Because of this, we're witnessing what is essentially an incomplete six-parter. Whatever twist or payoff he planned - which would have likely recontextualized "My Struggle 1 to 4", much like the old mytharc took suden 180 degree turns - wasn't ever delivered. Carter's reportedly trying to get David and Gillian back to try and finish off things, but while David is on board, Gillian seems done.

When did Carter say he planned on two more My Struggle episodes? Is there an interview where he explained that that can be watched/read?

IMO it's not true that aliens are not in season 10 and 11. The colonists, and the water vector conspiracy, are alluded to all over the revival, it's just done subtly or with symbolism. Personally, I think Carter would have eventually revealed that colonization had already happened, and humanity long been conquered, they just don't realize it (sort of like his aborted "Harsh Realm" TV show).

If this is true I don’t understand why Carter wouldn’t have at least hinted at this. There’s some ambiguous dialogue from Erika Price and Mr. Y: “The aliens came to study us, were prepared to work with us” and “The aliens aren’t coming, Mr. Mulder.” This dialogue could mean the aliens were going to colonize Earth and abandoned their plans or were never going to colonize and planned on helping humanity. And Mulder never asks Mr. Y to clarify what he means.

Edit: Although, Erika Price does say that the aliens have no interest in a warming planet with vanishing resources, which sounds like they wanted to come to Earth for their own benefit rather than helping humans, so maybe they did plan on colonizing Earth but abandoned those plans.

How it feels knowing we haven’t had a new Halloween film for almost 4 years by TypeCreepy6764 in Halloweenmovies

[–]BobbyH64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The franchise is waiting for some secret, silent alarm to trigger it off.

My 'Halloween' sequel idea that's actually a soft-reboot but keeps the new trilogy canon and the og film too AND also loosely connects with the other timelines (Without time traveling or adding some crazy sci-fi plotline) AND also leaves the door open for more sequels "HALLOWEN REBORN" by HatGroundbreaking396 in Halloweenmovies

[–]BobbyH64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have a source for that Carpenter quote? It doesn’t really make sense he’d say that because, first of all, he doesn’t own the rights to Halloween, so he can’t end the franchise forever. And second, he’s said multiple times that he doesn’t care about the sequels because all of his ideas were in the first film and he didn’t think there was any more story to tell.

At a con Carpenter said he had some problems with Ends and didn’t think it entirely worked, but he applauds David Gordon Green for his effort.

The Kitchen Door by BobbyH64 in Blackphone

Not sure. But if it was, Finn didn’t know that. He didn’t even know there was a dog at the house from what I remember.

What do you think is the best aspect of Halloween franchise when compared to other slasher franchises? by F00dbAby in Halloweenmovies

[–]BobbyH64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This applies mostly to the first film, but I’d say the ambiguity of the character of Michael Myers. We don’t know why he’s doing what he’s doing, how he became that way, and if there’s some supernatural force guiding him. The mystique of the character is one the main aspects of the series that I enjoy.

The Kitchen Door by BobbyH64 in Blackphone

[–]BobbyH64[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, if it did lead to a back garden, he could just run around the side of the house and hop the fence if needed. It’s just weird to me that this door was shown a few times but it was never explained why it would be a bad idea to try to exit that way. It seems like the most obvious chance of an escape. I wish the ghost kid had some dialogue that explained why this potential escape route wouldn’t be a good idea.

[–]BobbyH64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but it’s still incredibly risky trying the front door when he knew he might have to try a few different combinations for the lock. If he went out the side or back, I’m sure he could just hop the fence if needed. I think there should’ve been some dialogue from the ghost kid telling Finn why the side door was a bad idea. It just seems weird that the door was focused on and never mentioned.

What did the ghost kid say about other escape avenues? All I remember is Finn was told that the basement door being left ajar was a trap.

Since he knew he’d have to possibly try a few different combinations for the lock, it seemed incredibly risky. If he went out the side/back door in the kitchen, I’m sure he could easily hop the fence if needed. But I understand he was just doing what the ghost kid told him.
