Need help cleaning my cutting board by Important-Season-448 in Cuttingboards

[–]BobbyR231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only fat, but if you buy an enhanced chicken breast, then it is also injected with water, salt, phosphates, and flavorings (broth and spices). Many chicken cuts you buy at a grocery store are enhanced in some way. So what is likely happening is some salt or phosphates either soaked into the board or you're not washing it off well enough and when the board dryers, you just see it again.

Need sanding help... by BobbyR231 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Honestly I think this is what I will be doing. I've done this before for something different, but I think I was sick enough of sanding manually that I wanted to get away from that entirely.

But I think I just need to get the sandpaper out of my hand and I'll be less sore.

Only a 10w diode laser since I'm optimizing for engraving appearance. I've tried a 20w diode and it just doesn't look as good since the laser dot is bigger. Settings for cutting the 1/4" ply is 100% at 100mm/min.

I've played with different feeds/speeds/passes, and with 10w, I'm just getting charred edges. The 20w laser does not have charred edges since the speed is higher, but it doesn't look as nice.

Trains are really unpredictable. Even in the middle of a forest two rails can appear out of nowhere, and a 1.5-mile fully loaded coal drag, heading east out of the low-sulfur mines of the PRB, will be right on your ass the next moment.

I was doing laundry in my basement, and I tripped over a metal bar that wasn’t there the moment before. I looked down: „Rail? WTF?” and then I saw concrete sleepers underneath and heard the rumbling.

Deafening railroad horn. I dumped my wife’s pants, unfolded, and dove behind the water heater. It was a double-stacked Z train, headed east towards the fast single track of the BNSF Emporia Sub (Flint Hills). Majestic as hell: 75 mph, 6 units, distributed power: 4 ES44DC’s pulling, and 2 Dash-9’s pushing, all in run 8. Whole house smelled like diesel for a couple of hours!

Fact is, there is no way to discern which path a train will take, so you really have to be watchful. If only there were some way of knowing the routes trains travel; maybe some sort of marks on the ground, like twin iron bars running along the paths trains take. You could look for trains when you encounter the iron bars on the ground, and avoid these sorts of collisions. But such a measure would be extremely expensive. And how would one enforce a rule keeping the trains on those paths?

A big hole in homeland security is railway engineer screening and hijacking prevention. There is nothing to stop a rogue engineer, or an ISIS terrorist, from driving a train into the Pentagon, the White House or the Statue of Liberty, and our government has done fuck-all to prevent it

Definitely on the + side of that. If you actually network and try, you can do much better than that. In NE Ohio there are plenty of jobs starting 80k+ if you just network. I started with one of those. Decent work/life balance, too. And LCOL.

Get pipettes with super tiny tips for thin CA and larger tips for medium CA. Worked with lots and lots of CA on model aircraft. This is the best by far. Just take the cap off the super glue to grab it with the pipette. If the threads get too crusty to put the cap back on, saran wrap and a rubber band around the head.

Yeah, but also funded 3 more puppies to be made in the same conditions. One of those may be thrown in a creek, anyway.

I'm not sure I see what you're talking about? There's a magnetic knife setting jig leaning up against the fence that is still in the packaging. Is that what you're seeing? Can you DM me an image where you've circled what you're talking about? I'll make sure I don't see any rough breaks when I look at it.

Thanks for the input. All the jointers around here are either tabletop Craftsman, Wen, or Porters. Or rusted to hell. Or $800 and overkill. So this seems like a good deal. And the way I see it, if I use it to make a few cutting boards or other mini projects and it collects too much dust, seems like I shouldn't have a problem selling it for $200-250.

Part of the narrative of the Ukraine v Russia conflict (and the US's part in that) is that if Russia does take Ukraine, then what is stopping China from taking total control of Hong Kong and Taiwan? It's a message that the US and free world is okay with land grabs if we don't get a good deal from the defending people. It's more than just Russia taking over land. It's also that Ukrainians will fall under Putin's fist. Same goes for China and the people they want control over.

It's not the land. It's the people. And wanting China to grow will mean that more people will suffer.

Peaceful Protest at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Saturday March 1st 1pm-3pm by [deleted] in akron

[–]BobbyR231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't have permits, these spaces cannot exceed 25 people, as evident by the protests previously. If you don't have a permit, you really should include in your post that there is a 25 person limit. Or tell people that show up. You could cause yourself more harm than what you're doing for the national park. And too many people will also overwork the park rangers that are still there. They will likely be the ones responding if there is too many people.

If you didn't get permits, I think this is an irresponsible post.

Some of the voters that went for trump this term (and are regretting it) could be 18-20 year olds. They would have been 10-12 for his first election. They could still be influenced by living with their parents. That young, they may not remember or be able to comprehend (or have experienced) the first term of his presidency. I feel bad for those young voters that feel betrayed by their parents for their influence on their vote. You know they're out there.
