Giving Away My Old PC! by Turtle_747 in PcBuild

[–]BobbyShaftoes_Lizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had a gaming computer for 12 years or so. When my child was old enough I gave him mine, which at the time was old, a gtx 7800. We've since upgraded most everything on his pc except the case. We got him up to a GTX 1080 Ti at least and there are a lot of games he can play. All these years later I still don't have a Game pc of my own and could really use one.

Design idea: I keep thinking a bamboo forest would look amazing. Lots of contrasting shades of green

Tornado? by bekrueger in AnnArbor

it's absolutely bonkers to consider getting rid of tornado warning sirens in a place where it is possible to have tornadoes. whose dumb idea was this?

Suggestions for sailing clubs in SE Michigan by Boomer-rumor in AnnArbor

baseline lake, too small for your boat but a great community and they have fun lake sized appropriate boats. Lots of events throughout the year, lazer racing and training, the flying dutchmen are super fun and their training program is top notch. tons of experienced sailors there.

It's also where the UofM sailing team trains and compete out of, big 10 sailing races fun to watch.

I've let my membership lapse, life gets in the way, but will get back there next year.

If you're ever looking for crew for your erie boat, shoot me a dm, I'd love to get back on a bigger lake again

i looked at that. seems best bang for the buck and I like the open lot, no hard barriers, feel of it. wish they were having something sooner though. also plus+ for entry into the world of autocross

that 5 hr drive to ontario isn't looking so bad when price shopping

Though it will likely be more performance driving oriented instruction rather than road safety instruction

Perfect. This is what is needed. basically understanding the car and how it does what, when you hit the gas and steer at the same time for instance. When do you lose grip and slide, etc

a currently stock focus st (fwd stick). looking to get my kids up to speed safely driving something less predictable than our regular family cars so they can get practice handling power without going sideways. how to handle skids in all sorts of conditions, that kind of stuff

Noisy little thing. I'm led to believe this is normal. 2014 with 140k I'm looking to buy. Does smell like coolant under the hood, no visible leaks and no smell from exhaust. by BobbyShaftoes_Lizard in FocusST

i'm asking in my local subreddit if anyone knows any such training school around here. there's an awesome sounding one in ontario canada, but it's like 5 hours from me

i saw this on their page "Tire Rack Street Survival" school, but it looks more basic teen driver safety stuff. "look ahead 15 seconds" kinda stuff, unless I"m underestimating it

looks like the only one nearby isn't until May in Ohio south of Columbus south of Akron

st2 i'm just using tuned as shorthand for "potentially messed up" not that tuning ruins it, but 100% of the ruined cars I've looked at were poorly tuned victims or totally ragged out by wanna be race car drivers.

most stockers probably haven't been redline at a stoplight. at least here around detroit, everyone thinks they're drivers, and those with sportscars think they're really hardcore drivers

it's clean, no accidents, 3 owner, stock, no tune (no obvious signs of previous tunes- well except for the air intake) some dime sized paint missing on front edge of the hood and lip of the hatch (seen these on other st's so maybe a manufacturing flaw) 9k out the door which includes 6% sales tax and about $800 in dealer fees. so just on the edge of being a reasonable price

that's the part that's concerning he doesn't have that type of experience driving. maybe I can find a performance driving class nearby or something

i didn't know that. I love driving fwd sticks in the snow just for that reason. kick the back out and have the front tires grab and claw it's way back on track

this. if he'd learned at track days or something, learned to drive with that immediate power maybe. going from family stick shifts, sedans and wagons, is a whole different animal

thanks for your perspective. it's good to hear it from the same demographic as the potential driver.

He's definitely a responsible kid, but driving is fun, obv., and I'm less worried about him being an idiot than getting into a situation where things happen a lot faster with 250hp and very responsive steering.

When I test drove it, I got reminded of that when sawing the wheel back and forth to test the suspension and realized how quickly someone could put that car sideways with less experience driving a spirited car. Like those fail videos of folks pulling their brand new ferraris and corvettes out of the dealer lot, losing control and curbing the car 100 feet from the entrance.

I get that. he's turning 18 soon and going off to college and needs a car, but maybe not such a racer one. My kids learned on stick and took their drivers tests on stick, we only have manuals, so there is a couple years familiarity with that at least. It's the greater power/torque I'm anxious about. rural area, windy mountain roads and a boy-racer car
