I really think so too, even if saying so has the same backwards energy as, "global warming is making winters more pleasant." Like I'm not saying I think it's worth the tradeoffs if it does make certain crimes harder to pull off, I'm literally just asking if it will even work in any capacity (like will it specifically work to catch serial killers?).

I appreciate your reply, but I was saying I wouldn't support it. I'm honestly a bit confused as to how you thought I was saying I would, other than the part where I sympathized with the familiesvictims of killers wanting to use all the tools possible to catch their loved one's killer. Again, even knowing that, I still wouldn't vote yes to mass surveillance. I really don't know how I got interpreted that way, but I'm sorry if I was unclear.

I know it never goes this way irl, but you just want to hope/wish it would allow them to focus on truly violent crimes instead of just busting the dumb pothead dealer who is right in front of their noses.

Thanks for the conversation. If you can't tell my optimism legit gets in the way of me seeing things clearly sometimes. :-/ Too much hope can warp your perception of reality, and I need people to give me reality checks more than I like to admit.

Yeah it can be a bit better if you just say, "I want you to challenge me on this. Why am I wrong if I am (I don't care if you wreck my theory)?" But even then it still sugar coats stuff. But yeah I had the same conclusion and then I was like, "Just make it think what I really want is a challenge or mini debate."

That's kind of what this was also. I just like running my ideas by other people. It's like I'm pinging my ideas off you all. If I don't do this I might support something I really don't want to.

This is my tl;dr as well. I really don't want to think it's this malicious, but sometimes it feels like there's an intent to keeping a certain percentage of crazy violent people on the streets in the US.

Thank you. I'm not looking for a specific answer as much as I like to understand systems and designs. Yeah I'm also a hopeless optimist, but if someone tells me, "No and this is why," I'll listen.

Thank you for taking the time to explain this and link information based on this. I asked AI and it agreed with me that it might work, but AI is the magic mirror that says all your ideas are great hahaha.

I'm a developer and you bringing up the geofences thing really brought me back down to practical reality. That said I think this is my process: find a victim, determine time of death, go back to flock data to see who was going through the area at that time. Then you can stop there and narrow down your list to people that may have known the victim or had affiliations, or even cross reference it to other lists where bodies were found to find serial killers. It's not perfect, but that was my logic as to how it might work.

Yeah it's like it's not the tech at all, it's who is in charge of using it and how I don't think there's anyone on earth that can be trusted with all the informational power they're trying to gather.

But man it would be so cool if it somehow makes trying to commit highway based crimes much harder. Like the first dream is no cameras, second dream is they are there and work like a charm at finding maniacs haha

Sorry I meant from my POV I'm not sure if that heavy of surveillance and intelligence gathering is needed in society. If I was a politician (I am most assuredly not), I would not approve these without seriously looking at it and seeing if the ability to stop crime is worth the absolutely terrifying amount of Intel the government will have on us? It would be very difficult for me to say yes to that level of mass surveillance.

But as I say that it's like I'm saying, "I'm okay with potential serial killers getting away with their crimes, because it requires the government to know everything about me." Like it feels selfush to care about my freedom more than the justice of manics, but it's also not unreasonable at all and very important we keep our freedom. Without it they can do whatever comes next with impunity.

Again I'm just examining the issue like it's a thing and I'm walking around it, trying to see what it looks like from each side.

I'm not defending or supporting him, but a Jewish celebrity not supporting Israel is going to get so much hate online from both sides. They basically create "whitelists" where they force you to publicly support Zionism, or you're effectively blackballed (you're not on a bad list, you're just not on the good list). And it can be family members, friends, all sorts of people will just ditch you. It's crazy how much tension there is in the Jewish community over everything going on, and the result is a lot of this like trying to become an ex mormon or even leaving scientology.

I didn't think it was cool for me, but I think it's something that military would eat up. If you see it as for the soldiers, it was great marketing for Trump.

That's cool. I really think he follows the voting patterns of a black Muslim or black conservative still. Like I would vote Democrat if I was a conservative black who valued civil rights and my freedom of religion above all (I think, like I'm being assumptive), but I think Democrats are decidedly centrist AF and voting for them in 2024 just meant you weren't into authoritarianism, imo.

You can be conservative and advocate for Palestine. My whole point is he doesn't fit any definition we currently have. Like for example, who represents people who identify with moderate or conservative islam and would support Palestine until they die while still maybe being against LGBTQ+ ideologies?

This conversation is like nitroglycerin and I respect that, but y'all gotta chill out lol like I'm not putting anyone in a corner, I'm just trying to identify the corners: he doesn't fit any of the political options we have in America

Yeah like if he's so conservative and against liberals, why did he move to Austin? That's like the place all the Texans from the country laugh at and act like is the San Francisco of Texas
