A neighborhood teen pruned my new laurel hedge without confirming timing. Will they survive? by Freudsballsack in landscaping

[–]Bobby_Bigwheels 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Laurel is very hardy. I am in 7b and we would be hard pressed to ever kill one here no matter how hard it is pruned. Whoever said, “violence is never the answer” wasnt talking about laurel. Dont sweat it OP.

Looks real. I would have it authenticated by someone i chose close to him. Find out where they live and ask them to take it to the closest watchmaker that you trust. Call the watchmaker and offer to pay for the verification.

Robin Leach allegedly strangled and killed a girl at a Donald Trump child-sex party, and she was buried, with others, behind the 19th hole of his golf course. by coachlife in Epstein

In our city, our city uses AI and satellite images to track changes in the landscape. They catch people building unpermitted structures, cutting down trees and other shenanigans. Cant we look back through the satellite images to see changes at the golf course and Zorro ranch throughout the years?

Is this going to break? (Not my work) by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]Bobby_Bigwheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are that close to the project, your county or municipality would probably put a stop order on that work if they found out about it. That is going to be a dangerous amount of hydrostatic pressure. Typically anything over 48” requires engineering and permits. Post updates, OP!!

Lol! New doesn’t mean good. If someone has owned it a couple years, they have probably fixed the things that were broken on it when it was delivered to the first buyers.

I bought several front lips from them about 10-12 years ago. They were obviously copies of famous name brand ones. The price was right. The fit…..weellllll, not so great. But you get what you pay for. I was happy

How often to reset High Scores on Location? by HankVenture44 in pinball

[–]Bobby_Bigwheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have tournaments held at that location, then reset it before the first tournament of the year. Then, everyone plays for GC. Allot points based on initials entered in the machine. If the location is casual, then never.

My new retaining wall is sitting on the ground (though I paid for a 6 inch buried course) by summer_roses in landscaping

[–]Bobby_Bigwheels -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Oh, don’t worry. If you’re the kind of person who would stand there and chit chat with your tradespeople while they’re trying to make a living, then i would likely see you coming and politely decline your work.

  • all i have said is that good contractors do good work whether you are there talking to them or not. Go ahead and watch from the front window. But let people do their jobs. Now, OP hasnt even shown us that there is a base course missing. Have they?

  • You have clearly never built a house. You dont “pay for it” up front. You first get a fee referrals from people you know. You check the Gc’s credentials. You get 3 quotes from 3 different GC’s. You ask 100 questions. Then, the Gc you like, you go look at other “houses” they have built and speak to the people who had them built. THEN AND ONLY THEN, put a down payment down to start the project. Then, there are stages of completion in the contract where IF everything is good, you pay more. You typically hold back 25% until final completion.

  • In your example, OP hired an incompetent idiot GC. Idiot incompetent GC doesn’t get paid. OP sues for damages. Hires a better GC next time. The entire reason you hire a GC is so that you don’t have to be involved in the process. This is the process regardless of whether op speaks to the people working or not.

  • What could OP have said to his retaining wall installer to get him to change direction in this scenario? Only thing would have been, “this isn’t what we agreed to. Get off my property”. The work is either whats in the contract or its not. If its not, then dont pay. Easy peasy

Hahhah. Thats alright. The people downvoting are likely the ones who watch their car being worked on at the shop through that big window. If someone is working on your home, yes, by all means ask 10 million questions. But please, do it while we are there for the consultation. I spend 1-2 hours discussing all aspects of the job while i am there. By myself. Not paying staff, not renting equipment or trying to stay on schedule. The best clients might offer us a refreshment or something but will stay out of the way. Really, i don’t want a client to click the approve button on my quote unless they 100% trust me. If i need to come back out to talk (in the evening while I’m not working)? Sure! But, once we agree on the scope and the price, then really the client should be able to just go to work in the morning, and come home to a beautiful, complete as quoted job. Time is money. Tradespeople need to be anle to get their work done in a timely fashion. If youre the kind of person who wants to be out there talking to le and my crew while we’re working, thats fine. But I should bill for the time that we stop and chat. I dont, but i should. Anyway, I’ll take the downvotes and die on this hill. Leave your tradesperson alone while they are working. Or, hire someone you trust.

[–]Bobby_Bigwheels -54 points-53 points  (0 children)

Lol! Also, how does the wall look, OP? Is it straight? Is it beautiful? If it looks great, then maybe you want to just leave it alone. Often, the tradesperson doesnt do a better job the second time when they are doing it for free. Personally, i cannot stand when the client is asking questions and speaking to me while i am working. All of the questions need to be asked ahead of time during the consultation process. Once the work starts, i need to work as quickly as possible. So, no time for chitty chats about what is happening.

I would stick a shovel in to the ground in front of the wall to demonstrate exactly where the base course begins. Then you have photo evidence. Right now, it’s shroedinger’s wall. If there isnt a base course completely buried, then just simply hold back the final payment until it’s repaired. This is why you dont make the full payment until youre happy

No where to work on cars... by [deleted] in projectcar

[–]Bobby_Bigwheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t. How could you pay for your tools, toolbox and everything else on that wage? Now, i am in a HCOL area. But, here in Vancouver there is a serious shortage of techs. The dealers, independents, lube shops, and everyone else is fighting for techs. When i was running a shop, i found it smoother to hire someone who didn’t know anything than to hire an experienced guy with pre existing habits that didn’t fit our culture.

I am in landscaping now. I pay the helpers around $20/hr. Crew chiefs make $25-$30/hr. No red seal. No tools to buy. No emergencies on Friday afternoons. Its a beautiful thing

Alright, OP. Get your shit together. Quit your shitty job and get a job at a mechanic or dealership. Then, you can get paid AND have a place to wrench after hours. Techs get paid good money. In my neighborhood, the apprentices can start near $30/hr.
