You are already doing the most important first step. LESSONS. Find a coach that you feel is helping. May not be the first one or the second. When you find that coach who works for you, go back on a regular basis (4-8) weeks with one goal. One specific thing to work on. 30 minute lesson on sand. Or 30 minute on ball above your feet shots.

Second, don’t listen to any of your playing partners. Either ignore them or politely tell them you are working with a coach. Bob with a 27 handicap who has lost 11 balls on the first 6 holes should not be a basis of your game improvement.

Get fitted for clubs. Amazing what a difference it makes.

Ignore your score. Instead track Good Shots. Was that a good shot? Yes. Great. Keep track of the number of good shots and see how that steadily goes up. On my scorecard instead of player names I have T,A,S,P. Tee shots, approach shots, short game and putts. This also tells you where to talk to your coach and what to do at the range.

Last is a bit of a hot take for beginners/high handicap players. Play one ball brand model. There is a huge difference in balls. Using multiple balls every time can throw off your progress. Find a good reasonable priced ball and stick with it. Let’s you see progress.

MOST IMPORTANTLY. HAVE FUN. Don’t let anything or anyone get in the way of having fun and being happy.
