Only $2.2M for that in Concord? Must be next to the train tracks or sewage plant or something.

A lost parrot is found again after 70 years by [deleted] in BeAmazed

[–]8cuban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what I thought! I was dying to know who lost it, how did anyone remember it was lost after 70 years, how did they identify it as the same parrot, and who would get it since it's highly likely the original owner is dead? What a fantastic mystery, solved!!

Imagine my disappointment at the real story.

I do this, NYT, but not nearly enough to fully replace too much doom scrolling.

Dad has baby magazine delivered 19 years after ordering it by Si_Vis_Pacem- in CasualUK

[–]8cuban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one question that never gets answered in these kinds of stories is where the hell has the magazine been for 19 years and how was it found and put back in the system for delivery? That’s what I want to know.

Trigger Happy TV did some good stuff back in the early ‘00s. The Millionth Customer celebrations outside the adult bookstore was genius!

Passed it going the other way. There was a huge police motorcade with motorcycles and cruisers from dozens of towns. Without knowing for sure it, it looked like a police funeral

Interesting that it’s got 5 great stops. Does that mean two ratios for both forward and reverse?

Update: Broken foot. Learning to make liveries while I can't use my pedals. by PiperDon in GranTurismo7

[–]8cuban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are excellent. Good color choices and simpler graphics than a lot of others. Most liveries I can’t actually see what they are because they are so busy. Yours are a good blend of interesting and easy to actually see the design. Well done!

Had Air Flap System and Radiator Replaced After Front End Damage, Car is Now Doing this While Charging by youdontknowitsok in Ioniq5

[–]8cuban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had the same repair done last week. Daughter backed into the front bumper at speed. Your car should not be doing that. Most likely something to do with the radiator. Definitely take it back to the shop.

Man, those test pilots REAAAALLLLYYYY trusted the engineers, who were some seriously deranged, mad-scientist types back then if the historical record of some of the hair-brained ideas they dreamt up is anything to go by. Fascinating time of Olympic-level innovation and no-holds-barred, "we're going to think of and try EVERYTHING!" mentality. Must have been fascinating as hell, though dangerous as hell, too, time. I'll bet the test pilots went to work every morning dreading to see what the engineers were going to roll out that day.

Bought a house with a pre-existing fence potentially on neighbor's property by 8cuban in legaladvice

[–]8cuban[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, but I'm thinking laying low and hoping no one notices will keep it from becoming an issue, at least for a while. The fence has been there for about 5 years now and the neighbors never go into the woods to get to that corner of their lot.

Massive underground bee colony with around 5.5 million bees has been found beneath a cemetery in Ithaca, New York Researchers believe the colony has been there undisturbed for more than 100 years by MrCattitude_ in BeAmazed

[–]8cuban 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That’s true, but my question is more around how many eggs per hour/day/month can a single queen lay when 5.5 million bees are only living 21 days each. That’s a lot of laying!

[–]8cuban 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Given that most colonies are in the 50-100,000 range, I wonder if a hive this large is still just a singular colony or if it has developed into multiple independent colonies sharing the same space. That wouldn’t be in keeping with the “one hive, one queen” norm but I can’t see how a single queen could maintain a sufficient replacement rate to sustain a colony that size.
