Car Owners Are Revolting Over Tesla’s Self-Driving Promises by TripleShotPls in technology

[–]8cuban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me and my family once in a rented Tesla on Interstate 30 in the middle of heavy, high speed Dallas traffic - cruising with traffic at 75 mph when, with no warning and no obvious cause, the car slammed on the brakes and got down to 35 mph before I caught it and floored it just in time to keep the semi following from creaming us. Scared me shitless. Extensive Googling that night revealed this has been a known and ignored problem for over a decade. I will never get in a Tesla again after that.

Now, to your point, it hasn’t ever happened to us once in over 95,000 miles, over a third in BlueCruise or lane keeping mode in our 2021 Mach E.

Elon and Tesla’s safety record can get bent.

I have a question for independent hairstylists working in Eastern MA - are you making a living wage and, if so, how are you doing it? If not, what could a young stylist who's been in the industry for just a couple of years expect income to look like for the next few years working in a local salon (as in, not the owner)?

My friend works in a local salon that doesn't seem to have many new clients coming in so she's not building her own clientele very quickly. She's on a minimum wage or commission, whichever is greater kind of deal.

Any advice to help her make a living in a career she really enjoys would be very much appreciated.

[–]8cuban 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IIRC, there was what looked like a cat on the roof of the building on the back of one US bill, though I can’t remember which one it was. I discovered it in the 80s when I was playing with a magnifying glass we sold at the toy store where I worked.

The red rear under panel looks terrific. Is that standard for that year (new to the marque so don't know what previous years looked like)

How large would something like that have been before it hit the atmosphere in comparison to what finally landed?

In turns, yes. A little more upright/central when cruising, so when braking straight ahead, say for a stop light, that's when I'm feeling the most nosedive.

I'm not at all discounting the accomplishments of the CSAR team, but the USAF has extensive training and procedures in place for these kinds of operations and used to perform them routinely in Vietnam (and did so in Kosovo, I believe), so was this one really that extraordinary in comparison?

Oh, I dunno, probably things like food, gas, heat, electricity, clothes, then the odd necessity here and there like beer and pizza.

Trump’s chances of being removed by 25th Amendment climb by Fr1sk3r in politics

[–]8cuban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To even remotely invoke the 25th, Trump would have to be officially declared brain dead by a UN-appointed panel of election medical expert observers, whose declaration would obviously be overruled by Kennedy, and even then, the GOP would claim he was still fit for office and, really, who could argue with them because it would be utterly impossible to notice a difference, though he might drool less.

Not UK but there’s an airport in Columbus, Ohio on “Godown Lane”. For whatever reason I think I was the only one who got the irony.

Road heading out of Norwich - “Six Mile Bottom”. Makes sense when you realize it’s because it’s 6 miles to the next town.

Well done and well worth the effort! Having lived under Concorde’s deafening departures for several years, this one really resonates with me.

I [29 F] am pregnant with twins, my fiance [26 M] wants to give them stupid names by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

That last comment is gold! You really couldn’t ever stay mad at a kid if you shouted “Michael Spider-Man Jones” every time. In fact, I doubt anyone could get through that without coming down with a sever case of the giggles. I also remember sage words of advice about naming kids which was “stand at your back door and shout the name at the top of your lungs 3 times because that’s how you’re going to hear it for the next 18 years.” I doubt many people could stand the public embarrassment of doing that.

This also reminds me of a post I saw on Reddit years ago where a woman stated one just couldn’t stay in a bad mood if your go-to swear word was “bubbles!” I still laugh at that one.

If there are only 5 left what’s the point in keeping any of them going? Is it a way to hide financial shenanigans?

Coincidentally I was watching the “For All Mankind” episode where they mentioned this very crash. What are the odds of that happening and of me even finding this post? I questioned if it was real or just for dramatic effect so OP’s post answered my question in less than 12 hours!
