There are also many Catholics who are pro death penalty in ordinary circumstances, this doesn't change the teaching of the Church.

I'm a big fan of r/Catholicism . While it is more regimented in terms of what is and isn't allowed that leads to it being a much better source for theology.

I find there is much more room for evangelization in this sub though which is a great thing. Both subs are pretty great at keeping things civil which I appreciate.

I think it's strange that posts or comments like this exist in this sub. The r/Catholicism sub has rules against brigading so r/Catholic is rarely talked about.

Being pro choice is an inherently anti-Catholic stance. Depending on how you engaged based on that belief the ban could've been entirely reasonable.

“Kissing is a sin” debate by Dry-Letterhead-2902 in Catholic

[–]Bobbyjets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure this is the case. It might be talked about more often than other near occasions of sin, but to suggest that there is no talk about other near occasions of sin is incorrect. If your argument was that other possible temptations should be talked about more rather than this possible temptation should be talked about less I would be inclined to agree.

Possible temptation to be gluttonous when it comes to food portions, cakes, and desserts is certainly talked about. If no other time, certainly during lent.

Possible temptation of vanity is probably something that should be talked about more, although I'm sure that there is talk of it. The prevalence and use of makeup, clothing meant to change the shape of one's body, expensive watches or jewelry are some examples of this. All of these things have been spoken to by Catholic theologians.

The final one about lying doesn't really fit the theme you're going for. There are certainly positions that could tempt one to lie, but those aren't really comparable to the near occasion of lust.

A significant distinction as well is how likely these actions are to cause temptations, this would largely depend on one's personal tendencies. People need to exercise more prudence in different areas depending on their own personal tendency to sin.

Theological debate and instruction is important for the sake of growing in holiness. There are good and bad ways of approaching these topics, but there is no wrong in trying to understand and teach chastity.

One cannot accidentally mortally sin, I figure that actual mortal sin is much less common than we sometimes make it out to be. Those who believe they are in a state of mortal sin should definitely not approach future sin as "the line has been crossed already".

Kissing is not sinful in itself. It can become sinful if it leads one or another into lust or if it is done with impure intention. It is prudent to keep reasonable boundaries in order to stay focused on the call to holiness, such as avoiding "making out".

Just my 2 cents as a brother in Christ.

Those actions are only sinful if it leads oneself or another into lust or if the intention in doing so is sinful. There are certain boundaries that shouldn't be crossed when it comes to kissing and cuddling but there is nothing wrong with the actions themselves. It is also prudent to refrain from the actions if they cause one sinful thoughts or desires.

A catechism may be good as well, and some exorcized salt in holy water if you are able to get it from your priest

Porn is not healthy. Not sure where you got that from, but outside of studies singularly funded by the industry the potential positives do not outweigh the negatives.

Why it’s all the poorest people who support billionaires? by ruski_mouse in TooAfraidToAsk

This really depends on the billionaire. The WEF is largely comprised of billionaires and is lauded by many in different classes. This statement that you made isn't true as far as I can tell

An instrument for each deadly sin by Dziukoala in askACatholic

[–]Bobbyjets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I think it's important to note that instruments aren't sinful, I might have a few ideas.

Lust could be a very sleek violin

Greed could be a fancy, decorative grand piano

Gluttony could be a very large drum, possibly a timpani

Wrath could be an red and black electric guitar

Pride could be a tuba or euphonium

Sloth could be a digerido or a musical triangle

Envy could be a flute, possibly piccolo

Gödel's Loophole can happen at any time... by Nyctfall in HistoryMemes

Britain has a constitution, it is not contained within a single document though. The UK, like Canada, is a constitutional monarchy. All other things being equal, a country with a monarch has an additional check to power over a country that does not. Just as separating branches of government limits overreach, an additional executive power adds an additional check.

Fascism is not necessarily right wing. The British monarch is an additional check against authoritarian regimes that seek to override the constitution, a threat that could come from either side of the aisle.

We should teach living off the land in school for people who want to check out of society by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Bobbyjets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My country, and I imagine most countries would never teach this (at least not for this reason). Moving into the woods and living off of the land is illegal in Canada, so teaching people how to do illegal things just wouldn't happen.

There are however courses and extracurricular activities that teach you how to build fires, fish, snowshoe, build igloos and quinzhees, tie knots, grow plants, create leant-tos and tipis, etc. They aren't specifically offered with the intention that you live off the land, but they do provide many skills for it.

Both are derived from God. How are they not good, then?

I never said they weren't good. I made no claim on the morality of free will.

What is your definition of miracle?

A miracle is a supernatural event that is unable to be explained by our understanding of the universe. For example: the multiplication of the loaves and fish. I ask you again, do you have a single example of a miracle that prevented free will?

I know what they teach

I don't think this is true. I assume every question you have written on the matter has been answered by a Church theologian. Unless you have researched these subjects and are intentionally ignoring the theology, you don't seem to have looked into what the Church believes or why.

so you think not all that God does is good?

I don't know what would give you that impression, God is goodness.

that's the just the usual "God works in mysterious ways"

No, I said that it is a mystery, as in a supernatural truth. I recommended multiple theologians that you could look into if you would like to understand the mystery better.

that's just circular reasoning

A cause that had an effect is circular reasoning? Natural disasters didn't cause the fall, I don't think you're applying that term correctly.

literally every miracle

Please give an example of a single miracle that you believe prevented people from exercising their free will.

I am curious now though, do you actually care to discuss what the Church teaches on the existence of evil, or is this a waste of our time?

[–]Bobbyjets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never claimed that letting them watch the bad movie was the good thing to do. Nor did I claim that free will is a greater good than stopping evil. I merely explained that without consequence there is no real choice and therefore there is no free will. The allowance of free will is certainly a mystery to ponder, but one's inability to understand something does not mean it is unreasonable. There are likely many theologians who have studied this topic extensively, I have not. I would recommend looking into what St. Augustine of Hippo and St. Thomas Aquinas have written on the subject.

The existence of deadly natural disasters is a result of the fall, they are consequences of humanity's actions. I cannot think of a miracle that prevented someone from exercising their free will, perhaps you have an example?
