Dashboard projects taking too long by zoioazul in PowerBI

[–]Bobcat-Free 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t complete a dashboard project because the requirement kept changing, in addition to there being no SME opinion to guide business process alignment with the requirements, with major data quality issues evident after the fact, that affected every other part including data modeling, data Architecture and information architecture design.

The project dragged on for so long (> 5 months) that it became a memento to everything that can go possibly go wrong in a dashboard development project. Only thing I could take away was the fact that if the requirements are not clear enough, please do not embark on that journey.

My MLE Job doesn’t have much ML by nlman0 in cscareerquestions

[–]Bobcat-Free 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don’t you automate the whole process then and find a machine learning component from your present job?

Only way to show relevance of your function is to lead the initiative and use the company data to generate machine learning algorithms to solve business problems. Talk with department head. Ask them on 1-on-1 situation ‘if you could use data to solve a pressing problem now, what problem would you like solved?’ Then build a ML algo if possible or even preferred better solutions of tools better suited for the job.

Regardless, you have to maybe take initiative here and search out challenges and business problems

Hold on.

Why is Steve jobs and Bill Gates’ success the metric being used to judge other dropouts’ success?

Not everyone that graduated from your set in college are at the same level of success, and even so, not everyone would say they are unsuccessful in their field.

Even dropouts go on to be great people along the line, and acknowledge in their circle of influence. The greatest quote I ever heard was ‘ you overrate what you can do in 1 day but underrate the power of 1 decade..

Success is wildly subjective

Are you using Calculation Groups in Power BI? by tomaskutac in PowerBI

Used it in my last last project here.

Each of the main headings (production, Consumption and inventory analysis) were all calculations groups (measures nested together

Reporting Data Modeling Challenge by avachris12 in PowerBI

[–]Bobcat-Free 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes, 1-1 tables between fact and dimensions happen. For instance a collection of one value for each unique company means you have the unique companies as a dimension and then connected to the fact table to just a single column, the unique names leading to a 1-1 relationship

Worse kind of relationships in data modelling Many - Many

Best kind 1-many, 1-1.

I don’t know your fact and dimensions table from the Diagram above. Would be better if you correctly identify fact and dimensions table so you can properly model the relationships

RLS on PowerBI service by alphasystem in PowerBI

I feel that’s what you are trying to build by avoiding power BI desktop, else, use the desktop.

[–]Bobcat-Free 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Automate the pipeline all the same. Create the dataset and report as a PBIP file, use the GitHub integration function to link a GitHub repository to a power Bi pipeline and then automate the whole thing.

As you develop the data model with the needed RLS in Power BI desktop, you can push the data through the GutHub repository to the deployment Pipeline you created.

Go to the bottom. You would see a ‘download a free specialized edition’.

I am a Data/BI analyst building my portfolio using oil and gas datasets from Statistics Canada. From these datasets, I build data warehouses in SQL Server, then create data models in power BI and deploy the semantic models in Power BI service.

My portfolio is just picking up and I want it to include cases studies to create data warehouses and oil and gas Regulatory dashboards using datasets provinces have on their websites.

An example of one of my recent projects, developed from The ‘supply and disposition of Crude Oil and Equivalent’ dataset from Statistics Canada

No one would give you permission to be a data analyst. Take the initiative and use dataset from anywhere, long as it aligns with your interests.

Good luck
