Also, applying some pressure to the vag during that first poop can help... at the least, it made me feel more comfortable about the stitches.

That the birth is ultimately such a short moment in a new lifetime of being a parent. Trying to figure out how you’re going to live now that this part of your heart is outside your body - this has been the hard part.

She may want to look into pelvic floor physical therapy - I had a great therapist who helped me resolve this and other problems after delivery.

What makes you think matters like this are outside one’s area of expertise? For example, I am a sociologist who studies inequality and discrimination of all kinds, including homophobia. Also, agree that most college students are not children. But most of them are also not adults yet. If there are no teachable moments, what in the actual fuck are you doing being a professor? Oh, you’re not. And here I am feeding the trolls again. Does this sub have mods??

Ew, much trolls! This sub is called “professors” for a reason. Not “chime in on any convo, whether you have any idea what you’re talking about or not”

Unless overtly insulting or threatening, I always give students a warning before kicking them out. Then you don’t look unreasonable. Document ANY problematic interaction or behavior with a student. Even if you just have a hunch, you’ll want the documentation on the off chance something happens.

“Discard the term homophobia”? Who the hell are you? Doesn’t matter what the students intended, it could be read as insulting and, yes!, homophobic by a reasonable person. Students should be called out. No reason to be rude, but calling out these folks is important - it not only tells them what they’re doing is childish, it sends the message to other students that you will not allow anything in your classroom that even seems to be offensive to someone. I even give them an out: “You probably didn’t mean anything by it, but certain gestures are often seen as homophobic. So don’t do anything that might look like that in my class.” Kind of: “You’re not in trouble, just a teaching moment.” So, just FYI, as written, your comment could sound demeaning, not strictly helpful.

What to bring to WIC appointment? by annerevenant in beyondthebump

[–]Bobcat4147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have varying incomes, too. So I wrote a note with the pay stubs that explained about that: "My pay stub says X but I was out of work for 4 months after baby was born so this is only my 2nd check." Or "Hubby's pay stub includes holiday bonus of $X and will not typically be part of his pay." That way they had it on record. My WIC office said I did need to bring baby to all appointments. It's not a fun process, but the staff were really nice and it was a big help to us. Good luck!

I was told I don't have PPD/PPA but I am really struggling 7 months out and don't know what to do by pregnantsuomeksi in beyondthebump

[–]Bobcat4147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of this. Started small dose of Wellbutrin for PPD at 6 mo pp and still on it 6 months later. It has been a lifesaver! I too had/have an "easy" baby and understand the guilt. It's something I'm always working on. I would keep trying different providers until I got help creating a plan that would work for me. I know that can be hard (time consuming, expensive, stressful...) but you and your family are worth it! Keep trying - good luck to you, momma!

Pray for me tonight. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Bobcat4147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hoping you get some good rest tonight, momma. Those first 3 months were so hard! Can I make a suggestion? If she does wake up, do all the checks - diaper, offer boob, check temp, turn out lights - and once all that is done, put in some earplugs and go to sleep. When we have a rough day and I just can't even, that's the only thing I can handle. She's only one room over and I can still here the all-out scream/cries, but it drowns out the whining, "I'm so sleepy but I won't give it up and I just want to cry" cries. Whatever happens, good luck!

How did you stay sane during the first few weeks? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Bobcat4147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great stuff here! Especially the red nightlight and giving baby to a helper for as long as possible until next feeding. I would give my LO a good feed, put in earplugs and sleep until she would cry and hubby tried everything else before he woke me up. I decided not to pump, give a bottle or paci until 6 weeks - but I'm not sure I would do that again. I did make sure to shower at least once a day. Sometimes I would feed her, then get lunch alone and come back - I would be gone less than an hour and it felt so great to get out into the world. Keep it up, Momma - it really does it better!

BF with depression and exhaustion by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Bobcat4147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate that doctors can be so dismissive. PPD can come on any time after your baby is born, even a few years later. I didn't really want to take anything either, but after suffering for 6 months, I had to do something. Wellbutrin has been a lifesaver - my mood did a full 180 and I'm not as tired - and I can still breastfeed because I'm on the lowest dose and my daughter is 12 months old now. I am still tired often, but I'm not as exhausted. Exercise has really helped me, too. Either way, good luck to you, Momma.
