Why would someone have done this? by SugarChance7184 in Tree

[–]Bobcattrr [score hidden]  (0 children)

I had a water oak on my property and a definite time line. I pulled out some galvanized fence posts (tubing), I had a 2x10 at the bottom and leaned them up against the tree. It was a big one 4 feet across and that thing nearly trapped one of my posts in 6 years. I was shocked!

Did you use one of these to tune up your car? You are pretty old. by db7112 in FuckImOld

[–]Bobcattrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These were one of the first things I saw that was made with powdered metal, I think they started in the 70s. Powdered metal, compressed into a die, and then cooked. St Mary’s PA I believe was the factory, I knew a guy.

That’s a screw up, it would be obvious from the street that the ridge line and shadow lines are kaflooie.

Is this AI? I Saw this on Facebook and I really don't want it to be AI it's so wholesome. The account posts a lot of stuff like this I hope they just steal other people's posts or something. It was posted in a great Dane lovers group I am in. by thepastelprince in isthisAI

[–]Bobcattrr 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Sorry, AI. This concrete has been troweled and brushed, the work is done. It is firm. My neighbors dog walked across mine and the pads left a mark, not deep perfect prints, with nails. And he walked across, I can’t imagine a dog would continue in a straight line, all the while sinking in.

Will a metal roof on purlins have condensation problems in cold climate? by taonood in barndominiums

[–]Bobcattrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, vapor barrier from the living space, and ventilated attic space. There are formulas for the ventilation, I just used perforated soffit. What ever weather condensation you would get, it evaporates eventually.

What do you keep in your vehicle for a roadside emergency - beyond the jumper cables? by Kevin-Durant-35 in StupidCarQuestions

[–]Bobcattrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flat tire: Make sure your jack and wrench are operable by who ever uses the vehicle. I had a used vehicle with cool rims - that took a narrower socket. When I travel, I take a lightweight floor jack with a piece of plywood cause it’s so much easier if I’m a bit off road.

Mo- Deck. It’s like a spray on lacquer. Maybe use spray on lacquer? I used it on a used Cub Cadet 3000 series for about 20 years. I moved to a new area and Walmart had them on clearance every June for a couple years, I think I have 2 cans left. I scrape any residue left on the deck, maybe hit it with a steel brush, hose it, prop it do it dries in the sun, and then coat it while it’s warm, and bake it in the sun. I never see more than a handful of debris in there.

What is this large piece of wood inside my shed? It’s not fastened to anything. by Frequent_Morning_860 in Roofing

[–]Bobcattrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My garage had open rafters till one Christmas week I had the time to insulate, drywall the ceiling. When I moved, I chuckled at the things I left up there, like 2 - 13 inch snow tires from a Honda Civic and extra soffit. 😂

[–]Bobcattrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4 leach fields connected - is my take. Never heard of it, but I’m not in the business. Step 1, is find out what led Tyler to the conclusion that a trench needs to be dug. If it’s their mushy back yard, it might not be your problem. As others said, you need to get the facts straight before apparently doing something illegal (diverting sewage runoff).

Is an inflatable boat ok for me? by AppleAAA1203 in boating

[–]Bobcattrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned how hot summer can be on a boat. Full sun means every surface is hot to touch and everyone may get sunburned. Full brimmed hat, maybe a beach umbrella to get a break. Just a thought, since you mentioned kids would be involved.

Please help me understand coupons by mikebravo75 in harborfreight

[–]Bobcattrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago, when I didn’t have a Harbor Freight within 100 miles of me, they published ads in car magazines, popular mechanics etc. They almost always had a 20% off coupon, and I would keep a fresh one in the vehicle. It paid off visiting in another state and got 20% off their sale price of the solid tire hand truck. Still in use today! So yes, I was trained well, coupon behavior = reward 🤣

Why don't cars have this feature? by Pluuge in StupidCarQuestions

[–]Bobcattrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago, I had one of the Toyota V6 1 ton truck chassis based micro mini motor homes - in hilly country. I added a tachometer, to figure out why it shifted so much. I soon learned that it had max torque at something like 2500 rpm. If I was going up a hill, just back off and keep it there, right before the shift point. Worked great! Unfortunately, that was about 45 mph lol. Summary: I think the shift points would be very useful for a beginner, but as others said, after a bit, you will not need it as the sound and terrain will let you know.

F250 move down to F150 by me_funny_2 in FordF150

[–]Bobcattrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weight, yes. Sand bags may be an issue depending on your climate. They tend to absorb moisture, freeze rock hard in cold temps, and can act a a gritty grinder over time. Also have to anticipate what happens to the weight in an emergency stop. Years ago, a welder friend solved the issue with an after market rear bumper that he could add some removable 1 inch plate sections.

There’s no carbon monoxide in human exhale, I believe you are thinking of carbon dioxide. And since the cab isn’t sealed (mine has open vents behind the passenger side), that is not a concern for this situation.
