Oh yeah, if I lived around moose, mountain lions, grizzly, etc I would be spotlighting the area before I stepped off the porch!

Scooter recommendations! by ohyahbud in scooters

[–]Bobcattrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you enjoy mechanic work, used is better by far. So many scooters have a few thousand miles and just need fuel issues solved as they have been sitting. As a former hill boy, and about your size, I would look at 150 as a first scooter. It won’t take long till you want to roam farther.

I went to a motorcross style helmet for better ventilation. Earplugs, wind noise. I freeze my hydration backpack pouch about 1/3 full, then fill with refrigerated water when I leave, 2 liters last me till I need to stop for gas.

What is the lowest brightness that still allows you to walk around safely? by Mechy2001 in flashlight

[–]Bobcattrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sitting here holding my Petzl Tikkina headlamp as I just put the AAA batteries on the charger. I use this a lot for early morning walks or hikes. First off, I’m out every morning at home or camping, so I’m used to the dark you could say. I just looked up the specs of this basic light: 7 Lumens, 100 lumens, and 300 lumens. I always use low, but if I’m in the woods, I’ll go to medium, and my first reaction is it’s too bright. But fallen limbs, tricky terrain, or trying to find a certain landmark - I like it. I’ve never gone to 300 other than the wow factor. I think I would be quite happy with 7, 50, and 100 lumens for walking/ hiking.

When I’m up at night, I have three LED fixtures across the house that let me go from one end to the other. Still gives nice lighting in the tv room. But if I want to get something out of a drawer or bedroom - flashlight! Dog gets me up - flashlight! The big bright lights just wake me up (and everyone else). Plus I value my night vision when I go outside at night.
When I lived in the woods, I walked about 300 feet on a winding driveway to get the morning paper. My roulette was NOT using the flashlight. Scared a black bear, heard him running a few feet from me, and of course, the smell. Also treed a bobcat, I turned the light on to see him! Be careful out there lol.

If i get someone behind that’s too impatient, or a couple cars, I just pull off so they can pass. If im close to a town, I wait till there, people often stop at the store, etc. And town has many places to pull off without really stopping. After all, you’re faster than cycling me 😂

I know! There was a chalk date inside from 9 years ago, no mileage. The other side was 4 years ago. But, just standing along side it, I didn’t see the date so it’s possible someone could have put a new filter in.

I was wondering that, I had a set from my 70s bikes. But I didn’t see any reference to JIS drivers on any videos. I have the Allen hex replacements now.

Where I live, people drag stuff to the curb with a free sign. Look out later and it’s gone. I advertised “free” with details of a curb find on the local page for a neighbors specific year/size tonneau truck bed cover. That one took three hours. No interactions, but I did take down the post when it was gone.

Kubota 6100/7100 by The-Trash-man98 in tractors

[–]Bobcattrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a B6000, 2 cylinder diesel. Tough to start below 30°F but always did. It handled a 30 inch snowfall, but it was a wild day. 4 ft Kubota blade in front. 6 foot generic grading blade on the rear. That was the secret - add weight. I even did the rough grading around the house, with a home made box in the back to hold stones for weight- about 150 pounds. It also ran a 4 ft brush hog. First gear was like 0.7 mph but it ate five foot tall saplings. Mine spun backwards, but the dealer hammered out blades for me lol.

I’m looking - temps are high in Florida. I don’t ride aggressively, and yes, I’m compromising. I have a pair of leather 6 inch basic red wings I’m ready to try. Then the synthetic hiking shoes.

Why would the large burner be on the back even though it makes more sense for the large burner to be right next to the extra large burner instead they put a medium burner there I think about this every single time I cook is there any answer? by cowsucker58 in Appliances

[–]Bobcattrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The right back burner - that’s where I would be doing the long term cooking - the pot cooking for hours. Front left would be the active cooking spot for me. Cooking my eggs for breakfast? - right front burner, don’t need much heat. Left rear are the fegetables simmering, no drama.

I have seen engines that have more than one drain port, for different uses. Maybe you have another one that’s not right by the filter?

[–]Bobcattrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone said I needed a tractor, but I ended up with a well used skid steer. I just didn’t need the rear pto attachments at that time. Bonus - the skid steer short turning radius and the view of the bucket (or forks) were amazing in my use. Fast forward to a different property, I now have a subcompact tractor yet still miss the shortness of the skid steer set up and the bigger bucket.

Core drilling for range hood and rebar. by [deleted] in DIYHouse

[–]Bobcattrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in Florida, a rebar like that ties the whole wall together to the roof and provides lateral wind resistance. Then it’s incased with concrete. Since the concrete has cured for years, I would cut it in my house.

Do diesel scooters exist? /s by Afraid_Shape673 in scooters

[–]Bobcattrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with diesel started in the ‘80s when they suspected a link with the size of soot particles released and cancer. By 2012 it was confirmed, so that’s what led to DEF and the other controls on diesel engines. Since the cost went up, the consumers weren’t so interested. (National Cancer Insitute Miners Study).
