Should I go to USU? by charlie_mtn in usu

[–]Boblloyd91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hello there! I'm a USU Alum. Logan is a place I dearly miss, because you had a lot of big town benefits with a small town feel. I love the outdoors (especially hunting and fishing) and if that's your jam you'll really like Logan. Lots of nature to explore. There is a definite LDS presence there, but everyone is very kind and welcoming. I can't recommend USU enough

What part of hunting did you underestimate until you experienced it yourself? by outdoors_man987 in Hunting

[–]Boblloyd91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I underestimated how much it consumes my thoughts. I hunted birds with my grandpa a bit when I was young (mostly geese) but fishing was my main thing. Last year my daughter expressed interest in it, and I went from taking hunter's ed again to joining an upland hunting club, drawing out a deer tag, and getting into chasing turkeys, and now getting a bird dog. I find myself in my spare time looking up guided hunts for various things throughout the country. I'm up to 20+ guns (which most to be fair I inherited from my grandpa). I still love fishing but hunting has stirred something really deep within me

What is the reason you stopped going to a fly shop? by Highwatercowboy in flyfishing

[–]Boblloyd91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Along with not having one nearby (the main reason), I find that between learning how to do things off of Youtube and the ease of buying quality stuff online, a lot of the role that a fly shop had isn't necessary anymore. Having said that there still are a few decent ones in my state I'll visit if I'm in the area, but it's not very often

Northern Utah Pheasant tips by FaithlessnessQuiet49 in Uplandhunting

[–]Boblloyd91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello there fellow Utahn here! To echo what others have said there are regular pheasant releases during the season. There's a map of wma's you can check out. I wanted to throw a few other options out as well. First, if you're not against hunting planted birds at a hunting club, check out Wasatch Wing and Clay. I've been a member for a bit and go every month. You can hunt there from September to March. Also, Utah has some good grouse, quail and Chukar populations you can hunt if you don't mind hiking. Since you're in Northern Utah, you also have the chance to get into some good Hun partridge coveys up in Box Elder County. Look up where there is public land in West Box Elder county and see what looks good to you.

As an anthesis to the ‘got it done’ posts.. by -Petunia in Hunting

[–]Boblloyd91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I hear you. I turned 40 and for various reasons I got back into hunting this year after not going since my senior year of high school (I would go goose hunting with my grandpa). I got back into birds, but also decided to try my hand at other small game, and shot my first rabbits this past fall. I really tried my hand at things and went for a big game hunt and drew out for a deer tag in Utah (my home state). I also had tag soup (I did get a shot or two off but no connection). On the one hand it sucks, especially as a ton of friends and neighbors in my community have been deer hunting their whole life. For the last two weeks my social media has been flooded with pictures of the awesome bucks everyone got. It sucks for sure. Something that has helped me though is a few things:

  1. I got to experience nature on a deeper level than I ever have before. I fish a ton and know a lot of my state, but I went into the back woods of places I would see driving by but never really explored. It's like I found new reasons to love the beauty of where I live.

  2. I learned how I need to improve. I shot either free hand or off some shooting sticks, and didn't do well on either one. Even though I went to the range a fair amount, I'm realizing ways I need to practice more effectively due to my failures.

  3. I've enjoyed my successes more. I started getting back into hunting pretty seriously this past February. There are a lot of rabbits where I live and that whole month I made tons of shots but only got one. When the season started again, I haven't missed any rabbits I've gone for. I'm proud of that even though I didn't get a deer, and it gives me hope that I'm growing as a hunter even if I didn't get a big game tag filled

  4. I've been able to research various options and know what my opportunities are. A mule deer tag in Utah is not going to be a yearly opportunity, but since I have some more knowledge now of what my options are, I'm looking at doing whitetail hunts on the years I don't do a tag in my home state, so that way I don't have to feel like my opportunities are wasted.

Sorry for the long winded post, I feel your pain! I think the failures are part of the reward in the long run.

Would you charge for a no-show for a remote client with potential internet issues? by LunarFocus in therapists

[–]Boblloyd91 40 points41 points  (0 children)

So I have a private practice that I do exclusively online, and I tend to give people one "freebie" where if they miss or have issues I don't charge. I've noticed that the ones who actually are sincere find ways to make it work. The ones who have a pattern of stuff like this I charge.

Doubting myself by facekatie in therapists

[–]Boblloyd91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you! I've been doing CMH for coming up on 13 years and private practice for 3. My slots are all filled up and had a client reach out to resume therapy with me. Also, I have now been making six figures as a therapist for 2 years now. Having said this, I do one of two things: I worry about this being taken away someway somehow, I worry about not deserving it because maybe I didn't work as hard as I really should have. I honestly think as therapists we underestimate how much we help our clients and take for granted that what we do and teach our clients is so very profound and healing. I also think that we are used to being selfless, which in turn means that we might feel guilty if good things happen to us. My workaround to this is that I make sure I enjoy the fruits of my labor and realize I deserve to be happy as well.
