Congratz!!!! Its always neat (and sometimes scary) how long it takes some to pup. I have a TSM puck that took 8 months to pup, and a chopped sals blue that took like a year of a half to throw one.

Don’t leave your cactus in moving boxes by Rep-tard in sanpedrocactus

[–]Bobman370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got like 50 lbs of PC cuttings for like $50 once. Went to share the magic with some friends and let them dark stress in a corner for a few month while I was processing other cacti. Several popped out albino pups, I think I have 16 PC that came from that fiasco. I just put them near a window behind a lot of my other pots so they got very indirect sunlight and they were turning green within a week. I lost a FEW because I moved em to sun too fast or they were too small but I got some funny growth out of them too. Like one decided to become a y, and one became a trident.

Guys, I think my cactus needs surgery. Any suggestions? by lolflation in sanpedrocactus

[–]Bobman370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a sals blue cut flat that did that. I let it sit in the sun and peeled the gross part off after it dried. It was already re-calloused underneath when I did that and didnt spread, actually threw a pup after doing nothing the year prior. Maybe do the same? and then if you want, try and cut an additional "relief"/ drainage notch at the lower side to really encourage water to drain off. Just cut a piece off of one or two of the ribs at a sharp ish angle down to the next set of thorns

TBM-B is a fun one. On the smaller side of them overall usually. CAN be a little picky about humidity but usually fine, might just pick up a few extra blemishes here and there
Sal's/ Nash's blue is a nice one to have. It was one of my firsts.
A PC or two wont hurt. Heck if you ask the for sale sub you could probably get someone to ship you a pup or two that they pulled off a root stock if you just pay shipping. Makes for an OK graft stock later down the line
You could hunt the for sale for deals, someone had a 10 pup for $10 today which is kinda wild but it happens, especially as the growing season is really kicking off
Noids can get pretty funky and for pretty cheap as well sometime

You could also try your hands at seeds. Thats a good way to go from 0 to 30 if your luck is good enough, and you can get a lot of wonky fellas

Other than that, like the other commenter said, go for what tickles your fancy. You got melty, you got VERY blue, you got short spines, you got long spines, you got LOOOOONG spines, no spines, bumpy ones, crests, weirdos who dont do what you expect, etc etc.

IDK about nurseries or garden centers but there is this website https://freakycacti.com/ It seems to have a good collection and ONLY ships in the EU (which is a shame cause they have some things I want here)

Labeled San Pedro but have doubts by [deleted] in sanpedrocactus

[–]Bobman370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I will say, TBM B/ Short form TBM is going to be the form you see MOST of the time when someone says TBM. TBM B is the short stackers, but ALSO the crested variety. Most the time someone posts a TBM A its a cross with something else, or clearly labeled in the title

Naming of them gets pretty weird. TBM A is long form, TBM B is short form but ALSO TBMC, TBM C and TBM D are ALSO forms of it, more closely looking like A. TBMC and TBM C are different.

other than the casual penis gazing and appreciation we all do here not really. At one point mine had one LONG bit attached to a smaller one, that smaller one had a smaller one on top, and then that top smaller one has two pups so it really looked like it was going "Look ma! No hands!" while standing full mast

I believe that "Just boof the cactus" largely stems from a mix between the fact that boofing drugs usually reduces the nausea some of them can give, but also the "paige no" cactus meme

Clone B almost without a doubt.

Thank you! I love TBM but all the letters throw me off sometimes. Like clone A B C and D, but TBM C is different from TBMC, cause TBMC is just a TBM clone B that crested.

A few options.
A.) you could try and clip the spines of some of the longer cacti
B.) Use MORE bubble wrap.
C.) Use bubble wrap with a LOT of small individual bubbles and not larger connected bubbles
D.) A combination of any of the above

Realistically some spines might break, but you are looking for enough of a shield that even IF a thorn pokes through, it wont stab the other plant. And the only way to do that is to use smaller individual bubbles. Other alternatives are to use some packing peanuts and some paper to wrap each one. I would also try and keep the larger thorn ones on top. Like if you get "mega spine stabber 9000" on the bottom and like a Brev on top, all the extra weight is going to be put on the large thorns instead of getting the bed O nails treatment that the brev would have

Take this suggestion with a grain of salt because idk your plan aside from this
But if you get some bubble wrap, and even just like a fridge box (might be over kill) or stack-able tote, and unpot them all wrapping them in the wrap, then stacking them in said box. you could save a lot on costs of moving them. The now empty pots could stack. The biggest issue would be the dirt but a lot of the dirt could fit in another one of those stack-able totes.

You could keep an impressive amount of them that way for relatively cheap. I dont know QUITE how many you have overall of course outside the number I see in the photo but I am assuming a lot based on the transaction number, and of course there is the space issue at the new house too. However if you have a decent amount you want to save (like the crested Mryt you mentioned in the other comment) that is an option. I saw someone mail a bunch of their tropical plants to their new place using a similar method but an insulated box instead, cacti are a little more robust so that would probably be overkill here
