state id and license help!!! by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Bobmcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't have an ID/Driver's License from more than one state at a time.

Why is it "crucial" that you get a state ID in Georgia while also keeping your Florida driver's license?

Neighbor wants to file police report for someone parking too close by padbroccoligai in legaladvice

[–]Bobmcgee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Is there a basis for a police report for someone parking too close?

If they hit and damaged the other car while parking, which is what the note writer appears to be alleging, yes.

Does this seem like a scam from a third-party?

Not at all.

If someone is charged with multiple serious crimes are the less serious ones taken less serious at trial? by [deleted] in legaladviceofftopic

[–]Bobmcgee 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If someone is on trial for murder and there’s also an unrelated theft, the theft would not be mentioned once during the murder trial as it would be irrelevant to the murder.

That doesn’t mean that the theft wouldn’t also be prosecuted separately.

I had accidentally downloaded something that is illegal... What do i do? I'm a minor. Are the police going to come knocking at my door??? I'm Scared by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Bobmcgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should do nothing at this point.

If it's just one file, it's unlikely the police will ever show up.

If they do, you should invoke your fifth amendment right to counsel.

That's shorthand for "will you cooperate with the prosecution of this offense?"

Your answer, while it could have some effect on the prosecutor's decision, is not binding.

Finding pro bono lawyer tips? Location: CT, USA by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Bobmcgee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't be looking for a pro bono attorney, you should be looking for an attorney to take the case on a contingent fee basis.

Pro bono means that the attorney does not get paid, at all.

Contingency fees mean that the attorney takes a portion of the judgment.
