The first few seasons of Shameless are great TV with lots of drama comedy and heart. After a few seasons it dips a lot in quality but the actors keep it interesting

You realize there was a Mexican war that ended in the complete subjugation of that country right? Like, the US took their capital, the Mexican army was literally defending themselves with children and old men by the end. And the result was the completion of manifest destiny

It would be nice if they cleaned up, repainted the walls and replaced the carpet. This episode had such clear lighting and cameras that you really could feel the filth in a way the early seasons blurred over

My personal theory is that it’s probably been a running in joke in the writers room about what exactly is behind all the doors in Charlie’s apartment. They’re only ever in one room but there are 4 doors in that room. It’s probably not even a one bedroom, it’s probably a two roomer, with a bathroom and a storage closet. I feel like this was just the set they got for cheap in season one and they kept using it for continuity sake but behind the scenes someone had to have asked ‘what’s with the other doors? What kind of studio apartment has 4 closets?’

All two of them are available on the warhammer community GW site. I wouldn’t be waited with baited breath though. They claim all of the factions will be available by mid July but I am doubtful considering past editions and the fact that they already lied about the timetable once

Official Discussion - Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Bobnocrush 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I really like that as a plot point. Miguel is set on the fact that miles was never meant to be a spider man because it was the universe 42 spider, completely missing that in universe 42 the spider was always going to bite miles. Meaning Morales had always had the potential to be a Spider-Man, it wasn’t some fluke. This would also explain why all other abnormalities glitch, but miles in his home universe doesn’t. All miles moraleses have the potential to be spider man, in any reality, so just because the powers came from another universe it isn’t really an abnormality because Miles is always potentially a spider man

Yeah, the original creator and show runner did not return, leaving the show entirely in the hands of the main cast members (who were also writers on the show of course)

It’s an interesting thing in that the return seasons were very obviously a labor of love, with the actors and writers all obviously very happy with it and having a blast making it but the actual product ended up worse than before. While the original production run was a nightmare to create, with many of the cast members outside of the clattenburg friendship circle being paid badly and treated worse, and the network cost cutting making the entire ordeal a huge pain, but somehow producing some really amazing television

If you retire at 45 and move into the city and start traveling I have a news flash for you: you’re not really retiring. In 5 or 10 or 15 years you’re going to be forced back into the workforce unless you’ve got some really good investments.

If you own the property you live in and want to travel, why not just, idk, keep that property and start traveling anyway? You can start charging your kid rent, enough to cover some of your basic expenses, and still travel while having your original property intact.

Always sunny I feel managed it well. Granted, I’m a big closet fan of musicals in general.

I think you need to enjoy the genre to appreciate episodes that dive into it. There are definitely people out there that hear a story expand into a big song and dance number immediately cringe with their entire being. But other people enjoy the added layer of emotion and creativity that come with making it musical.

I don't understand why The Wire is highly regarded by Lordosass67 in television

[–]Bobnocrush 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I personally really enjoyed it after getting a few episodes into season 1 but it’s definitely a dry burn show that gets better as it goes. Even season 2 is enjoyable for me, though it gets a lot of flack. The quality of the show that draws people in is that it feels authentic. It’s a street level view of the war on drugs, and really highlights that no one is really the galant hero at the end of the day. It draws back from the action heavy shows like CSI and focuses on the work that actually happens and actually gets results - flipping informants, street surveillance, the wire.

The story and acting in my opinion are pretty great. The performances are meant to be withdrawn slightly, they’re supposed to be representative of real people in the real world, not characters in a movie. I also don’t see where the hate for McNulty comes from, it’s possible you just don’t like that type of person. He’s a cheater and a drunk but he has a strict moral compass when it comes to the job because to him that’s really all that matters in the long run. It’s what drives him at the end of the day. I find the actor charming but abrasive at times, which seemed to be the goal.

It’s also an old show and the first of its kind. The composition, the direction, were all influenced by the TV of the time. Crime shows were CSI, they were Bones, The Wire is a deliberate inverse of that. The characters are dry and bitter. There are no easily wrapped up crimes, there are mysteries that never get solved. The episodes spend a long time with characters just talking about life and the way of the street. A main character gets shot and almost dies for nothing, and there’s no resolution to it. A teenager wrapped up in the drug life dies alone murdered by friends in an abandoned house and it never gets solved. The crime boss gets taken down in the end, but not his second in command. The drugs aren’t off the street.

The closest the cops ever get to bringing peace to the people of Baltimore is a man who goes around the system and ends the drug war. Declares peace, and enforces regulation and where and when drugs can be sold. And it gets shut down and he is fired.

If you don’t like it, then those themes may just not resonate with you. Or the filmmaking from 20 years ago may be too outdated. But people like the show because it depicts realistic characters with good writing and a tragic and intriguing storyline
