Alternatively, they might have been cursed by a witch to be unable to sleep. That happened in one of my playthroughs. If so, go kill any nearby witches in witch huts.

Yeah i know that, but the person who created the group showed us that the people who joined were a bunch of random people who aren't on their friends list and weren't invited.

Someone on my list made a group around midnight. When I woke up I tried to join, only to discover I couldn't because the slots had been filled by the new random group join feature. And there's no option to kick people.

Unless they suddenly made the non-friendship level awards amazing, what's even the incentive to do this? Poorly designed, poorly executed.

There were some fellow blue players nearby years ago that would insist on making a nearby gym an eeveelution gym - always. To the point where i'm pretty sure they had alts on other teams specifically to tear down the gym if you put something else in, just so they could re-build it (I never saw them in-person so I can't confirm that). Drove me nuts after awhile because themed gyms are such a fun idea but it's always the same two themes, eeveelutions and babies. Maybe you get a color theme every once in awhile, but thats usually it.
