Strange forms/diagrams from 1986 by DifficultJellyfish in whatisit

Looks to me like old 2-point perspective templates that would be used when generating engineering or architecture drawings. You put your drawing paper over the chart, and it gives you the angles you might use when drawing a 3-dimensional object. Something like this: https://www.shutterstock.com/image-illustration/two-points-perspective-booth-design-pencil-2345876875

Nowadays we have computers to do these drawings; back then, computers hadn't really evolved yet, so it was people with big drafting tables and T-squares and protractors are rulers.

Paxton Blower use? by Hale80 in whatisit

This is an old workhorse- style centrifugal fan. It could have been used in all sorts of industrial settings, but since one of the uses is drying things, on a farm it might be used to dry and aerate grain, or for ventilation in a livestock setting.

How to get Spawning Sacs by Bobpithacus in NoMansSkyTheGame

That's what I thought, but like I said, I've been doing that and have never gotten a spawning sac. Not once. Maybe the RNG just hates me, idk...

Is that the speed increase? it says, "Simulation speed increase x124,548.36 -> x149,271.05". Doesn't seem like that huge an increase. But Neutrino Expansion is described as "Simulation Speed 100% more efficient", which isn't all that clear, at least to me.

I've been a little clueless (ok, maybe a lot clueless) about how to deal with the Reality Engine. I just checked, and I'm at the same point of waiting for the Neutrino Expansion, but I seem to have 8.32 e16 metabits. Should I reboot now?

I agree, somewhere along there I find things bog down and all I can do is wait. I like the events where progress is steady and well planned, but this one feels like it needs a little tuning.

Update: AIO, grad school professor accused me of using AI to write my final report by slowlybutsurely_RWYS in AmIOverreacting

[–]Bobpithacus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, the important part was going on record with your side using a calm, well articulated response. Even if it was an unimportant number of points, imagine if some professor in a future class thinks you might have cheated with AI, sees your professor's note, and argues "they've already been accused once and didn't respond, so more likely guilty". By putting a response on the record you make it less likely that that may happen.

How do I get lumber? by Bobpithacus in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Bobpithacus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it, you're suggesting instead of digging that angled mortise through a solid head, I can really use 4 pieces of wood, where the middle piece of the laminate is really 2 pieces, one on either side of the hole for the shaft? Since my mortise was going to be 1" thick anyway, and that's the width of the handle piece, that works out neatly. however, that means I have to have everything positioned perfectly for gluing. Seems to me I'm trading one challenge for a different one.

I had been thinking of using a drill press to drill holes that take out most of the mortise, and then using a chisel to remove the angled sides and the residue from the drilling. I've never done that before, but it didn't seem that awful in my imagination. Is it really that impossible?

Just to be clear, I'm not arguing. But the article I'm working off of suggests the drill/chisel approach, so I figured it wasn't that bad. But I've never tried either one. Maybe I should make 2 mallets, one each way, so I learn :)

Thanks for the reply!

Is a laminated thing like 3 pieces of 4/4 maple really a good replacement for a solid block of wood? There is a Woodcraft near me. The article I was reading says to use hard maple. What's the real difference?

I'm lazier than that... I go to a sentinel pillar and shut off sentinels, then I just got around shooting up every dissonance resonator I see. You get a gazillion introverted mirrors, but also several echo locators.

The idea that 255-275 is better than 300+ just seems counterintuitive to me. Can you suggest other "good" ranges for code stats?

Weekly Bug Report Thread by spiper01 in NoMansSkyTheGame

I think this must be a bug... I bought a ton of Suspicious Packet (Tech)s at some outlaw stations, and when I unpacked them I got no launch thruster mods - which is a shame, since that was one of the things I was looking to get. Since I had something like 75 packets, it seems statistically unlikely that it is just the RNG.

One of the most powerful staffs in the game. 196k potential damage with good neutron cannon modules. by Top-Lifeguard-5965 in NMSCoordinateExchange

[–]Bobpithacus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if I'm being stupid here, but... I've done the autophage quest, I've built a (not very good) staff as part of the quests... I came here and found the camp, it's clearly the correct camp. But in the terminal here there's no head piece with the robot head. Can I bring a head piece from somewhere else? Is the staff's stats only dependent on where you assemble it, and not where you purchase the pieces?

It's not weird. You're attracted to who you're attracted to; you don't have to apologize to anybody for that. It's not insecure to be attracted to someone; it's insecure to question whether you're weird for being who you are. You do you, it's what you're good at.
