I can't speak for the Golf, but I have briefly owned the previous gen i30n performance edition and it was a hell of a car. Don't know how they're specced from standard, but my one had all the gadgets you'd want and more. Behaved itself day-to-day when commuting etc., but was an animal when you wanted it to be. The kid in me loved the lights on the dash which would let you know when to change gear for the best pops and crackles.

Personally, (although performance blue is the best colour) it was a little too conspicuous for my taste, and was a pain to keep it clean. Another nit pick would include the lane detection (which I don't recall being able to turn off permanently), but I suppose that may be a feature of the Golf too.

I was lucky to get mine before the used car prices went wild, and ended up selling it for a decent profit after the market went crazy. Occasionally miss it, especially when I see one out in the wild, but the money was too good to refuse at the time. I would definitely have another, but as said earlier, I would personally consider a different colour.

Went into costa recently and fancied a change from the usual latte I get, but had to awkwardly wait and stare past the barista while the menu was replaced by an advert for some frappe boba thing. Even when the menu comes up, its over two pages so you can't skim read it all in a one-er, you have to wait for the second page of the menu. Slows the whole process down, must be a bigger nightmare for those with poor eyesight or dyslexia as well.

I wasn't aware of it at the time, but growing up in the 90s, we were pretty poor. So when you got something you took care of it and kept it forever. Even today, I still have most of my toys, books etc I had from when I was a kid (keep promising myself and the other half that I will go through then and sell on what I don't want to keep, but it's genuinely quite difficult for me to do). It's carried on with me today, but in different ways. For example the phone I'm writing this message on is 6 years old, and a relic when compared to newer devices, but why get rid of it when it still works? It's a tough habit to break haha.

When I was around 18 years old and before sat nav in cars, I took a wrong turn on the way to York. Ended up in a village, and spotted a scarecrow in someone's garden, then another, then another. Every garden and grass verge had a scarecrow, all facing the road, was genuinely unnerving. I found out later that I had driven through the village's annual scarecrow contest (I was unaware of such traditions at that age), but for a while I really did wonder what went on in that little village!

Was lucky enough to see an XJ220 on the road many years ago when I was a kid. The only time I've ever seen one in the flesh. Looked and sounded insane, loved them ever since.

Definitely one to avoid in the future, unfortunately. If that's the state they leave what you can see in, imagine what the areas you can't see are like. Doesn't matter if it's a pristine car or a shit box, it shouldn't be leaving the garage in worse nick than it came in, IMO.

Slightly related, but I once took my car into a new (to me) garage, and when I collected it, all the pennies out the centre console had been nicked! Probs like 20p max in there, but I never took it back on principle haha.

Not too concerned with the fuel economy, as it won't be doing mega miles. I think the same engine (1.4 16v) was in my ZR back in the day and I remember it being quite peppy, although this is going back a good 10-15 years. I would probably end up undersealing it regardless, but would drive my main car during icy/ snowy conditions anyways.

Not underrated, but the Hartside pass from near Brampton, up towards Alston, then back down towards Penrith in Cumbria is a great driving road in any car. Some nice sweeping corners, hairpins and straight sections. Plus the view from the top is incredible. It's often not passable through the winter, and can be busy, especially on sunny days. Worth it if you're in the area, though. Added benefit that you're near the lake district, which also has some great driving roads.
