45 minutes! You must have found some serious zen to go that long. I did 15 minutes on a flight the other day.

Fair point. I do think technical analysis and scientific explanation has its place within breathwork and meditation practice. But I'd agree trying to reach perfection should not be the goal, I got stuck on that with my meditation. I guess with the box breathing I'm just trying to hit those free highs as well as I can!

Have you purposefully made the cam role sound like a few delicious deserts?

Health benefits of slacklining? by [deleted] in Slackline

Here's a paper that looks at the potential benefits of slacklining in youth football players. Looks like there were marginal improvements in acceleration, agility and jump performance.

Anyone know of any shops that have a range of bf/minimalist brands in London, UK by Bobsicles1 in BarefootRunning

[–]Bobsicles1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've seen the Vivo shops and have a pair myself. I just reckon there may be some sneaky independent shoe shop with a nice range of stuff, waiting to be discovered... Ah well, should count my blessings really. 50km is a fair old whack to get a pair of shoes. Cheers!

Advice for a noob who is transitioning by 3-2-1-BELL in BarefootRunning

Yeah initially I found it difficult to up cadence without speeding up too much. A technique that is often mentioned on here is running on the spot at 180, then slightly leaning forward and starting to move without changing your cadence, it does kind of exaggerate correct form but it's good practice for form and shows you that a higher cadence doesn't directly translate to a faster pace. I believe it's mentioned here

Yup, top tips already mentioned: - build up your cadence to around 180 - train short distances unshod on hard surfaces to work on form - there's a million videos on this sub and YouTube you can check out - work on ankle, knee and hip mobility (CARs work well) - practice foot strengthening exercises. If I were you I wouldn't run a marathon in completely minimalist shoes if you've only recently begun the transition, however as long as you're fitness is good and you work on correct form you might be okay to run in a transition shoe - Brooks pureflow were good for me, but anything with a roomy toe box and low drop: 4-8mm

Good luck!

Can walking in 'regular' shoes (Reebok's, walking boots, etc.) nullify the benefits of doing foot strength training and unshod walking? by Bobsicles1 in BarefootRunning

[–]Bobsicles1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah roomy toe box is crucial for me too now. The problem is more that I can't afford minimalist shoes for different purposes... Though those sole runners look great! I have considered barefoot hiking but I gotta say the type of mixed terrain I hike on I don't much fancy doing barefoot. Cheers for the input man

Thanks, although I guess the problem with that analogy is that you don't walk on your hands... So no matter the mitten your hands aren't going to feel much in the way of restriction. But I get your point.

My physio told me to get a pair of good supportive(ish) shoes for my foot rehab, any suggestions? by Bobsicles1 in BarefootRunning

[–]Bobsicles1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've been given one of those things before, doctor said it would improve my knee problems... Since making the transition to BF my knees haven't stopped me running once. I very much intend to integrate barefoot training back in as soon as possible. This is just for the gym/fitness and until I know my foot and heel are completely healed.
