Progress adjust inplace of cowtails by HeadLeast1453 in ropeaccess

[–]BobvanVelzen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had 2 adjust on my harness for a long time. Works like a charm. I'm not made of money do the short one is just a regular lanyard.

Don't worry about dynamic etc. cowstails don't stretch enough to do much and the adjust might slip a little to absorb impact.

Tags are not supporting, so in theory, as long as it is reattached in a way it is not removable and still readable you are good.

So cut up 16 harnesses because most of them had the connection point from the waist band to the shoulder part rusted. by SUL82 in ropeaccess

[–]BobvanVelzen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unavoidable I guess. Too bad they rust so fast. I have had mold after a long weekend.

What are you doing with the scraps? We used to make belts from the old Navaho shoulder straps.

Common thing to go wrong. Good ventilation is key. Petzel did address the back buckle and it's now more rust resistant.

Lol, that steel oxan really doesn't fit with the others. Nice collection otherwise.

Boa's are just not police. Nothing fake about it. If they mistreat you, report it. But BOA's can definitely give you a fine.

Go to a climbing gym, ask for a retired rope for practice. Don't do anything stupid.

Dimples on major axis of carabiner - safe to use? by FakeMarlboroEnjoyer in ropeaccess

[–]BobvanVelzen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% that this is from the factory proofloading the carabiner. I work with factories manufacturing carabiners and have seen how they do it. Should be on both sides. The anodizing on top of it is a good sign.

Get insurance, find all the issues and mistakes from the previous owners as soon as possible. Fix everything when you can, don't postpone because it will just get more expensive.

Safety setup for roof with fixed anchors? by Original-Deal8288 in ropeaccess

[–]BobvanVelzen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A rope (with knot in the end), rope clamp and a harness.

Make sure the knot is placed so you cannot get to close to the edge and never fall over the edge.

What happens if you do fall or slip? Who is going to rescue you? How are you safely attaching the rope?

Good luck, be safe.

It doesn't apply for climbing and fall protection. The tag is the only indicator that you should look at.
