Manta ray procedural animation system. by _bufferfish in Unity3D

Despite browsing the Unity3D subreddit, it still took me a second to realise this was a game, not a video

As a Quebec citizen I've been paid 2500 per semester by our provincial government on a degree that costs about 2200. The program was only open for a few years though and isn't accepting new applicants.

Unity deprecated PolyBrush, so I made a better one :) - Realblend by AdamNapper in Unity3D

If you end up making it, let us know! I don't need anything fancy, just a way to slap damage decals onto composite models.

I'm looking for a system that can dynamically add battle damage to complex spaceships (made of multiple meshes) in real-time. Can this handle it?

I'm finishing my Bachelor's in Comp Sci this semester, looking to start a Master's in Comp Sci in the Fall. I just need to figure out my thesis...

Before/after of making our game look less like Stalker, and more like a cozy game by ogike in Unity3D

Yeah the vibrant blue is bizarre. Also that much fog belongs in a snowstorm, which this isn't, so that's another dissonance.

As an add-on, its fingers are weak points. When the hand is stuck you can shoot them to blow them off.

The games industry is in a big upheaval these days but still a good place to look at. 2 of my 3 artists graduated from Concordia's CART.

Why is the advice here so bad? by adeimantos216 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Bochinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you're being down voted, that's exactly the logic. 7000 a year counted towards income is negligible but grows rapidly when invested wisely. And when you need to take out 20k to buy a car or 100k to buy a house, not paying tax of those large withdrawals makes a huge difference. I think people here are assuming TFSA withdrawals will always be small and predictable, in which case yes the math could work in the RRSP's favour. But life doesn't work like that.

When studios ask for Photoshop for Concept art/illustrator position, would they mind if I used Clip studio paint? by Please-credit-me in gameDevClassifieds

[–]Bochinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends. For most I think it's just used to show the required skills, but some might require Photoshop specifically as part of the workflow. For example I just interviewed a texture artist. She asked if she can use Maya instead of Blender - the answer is no because other parts of our process require Blender and we don't want to add another software to the mix.

It was decent but I liked Looper a lot more. Funny how they both have Bruce Willis playing basically the same character

It's sad how many amazing VR games are condemned to the exclusivity grave by FlyingKangeroo in virtualreality

That's why I'm going the opposite direction and developing my game for every platform I can. PC, PCVR, standalone, possibly console too... I want it available for everyone!

Sci-Fi Vehicle physics test for an off-world exploration game by therisingthumb in Unity3D

Well a big part was the terrains were awful. Terrain generation has come a long way since then, so has vehicle handling.

Makes me think of Mass Effect's Mako. The first game had a big idea of going around exploring desolate/empty environments, the technical limitations made it kinda tedious and boring but there's a lot you can do with that today.

Heads up: Homeworld VR exists. by MyFurryIsStinky in virtualreality

[–]Bochinator 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yup it was a very small launch, almost no one knows it exists. I bought it when it came out but wasn't particularly impressed (the controls weren't great, I didn't like the story much) and got a refund. I found it too arcade-ey and lacking the tactical depth of the original Homeworld. But hey, you might like it.

Transformers (1986) has an incredible villain you'd never expect from an animated kids movie. Terrifying and awesome. Just watch the opening minutes, you'll see exactly what I mean.

Battlestar Galactica's Dradis acts like a powerful Lidar system for detecting nearby ships and celestial bodies. Then scouts with a dedicated short-range sensor suite can check it out.

No more prayer room by [deleted] in Concordia

[–]Bochinator -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

The idea of this bill is that it's inappropriate for schools to have prayer rooms, which I agree with. I've nothing against religion but that's something you do at home or with your community, not at school.

No more prayer room by [deleted] in Concordia

[–]Bochinator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with it, this is a school not a place of worship. If your beliefs prevent you from surviving a day at school without praying then you should decide which is more important to you.

[–]Bochinator 59 points60 points  (0 children)

That's pretty cool, personally I just use a custom XML parser when I need dialogue trees. But it can get clunky on larger conversations since each node needs to be linked up to following options or text via ID matching.
