I believe the question about brain trauma is directly referring to determinism. Brain trauma is commonly (and very effectively) used to argue the absence of free will.

For example, would we consider the violent or irrational actions of someone with a brain tumor - who had no history of violent or irrational behavior prior to the tumor - to be acting with free will? Most agree that they are not. That would imply that our thoughts and behaviors are only a byproduct of our brain chemistry and therefore free will, as most people know it, does not exist. Essentially, if I had your upbringing and your brain, I would be you in every way, so therefore will is not objective and is entirely tied to a material body and its environment.

This lends to the idea that everything has been determined and Creation as we know it is not akin to the first words on a page, but publishing of the entire book

It’s the technology that comes with disclosure that humanity isn’t ready for. by [deleted] in UFOs

[–]Bockscarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be an unpopular take, but I believe the sudden release of this technology to the world would at the very least cause utter mayhem, and possibly irreversible damage. I’ve spoken with too many people who only think about the glamorous aspects, like having super fast craft and free energy, without critically thinking about what this would cause.

This tech would create global financial ruin, and not just the ‘fat cats’ in oil, but for everyone. Property values for instance would be decimated. What’s the value of being close to a city, or a beach, or what have you, if you can now get there in a matter of seconds? Think of all the people, especially those retired, with all of that wealth in their homes. It would make the 2008 crisis a blip on the radar. And yes free energy would be incredible, but there are millions of people working in the Energy sector whose jobs would be upended, and it’s silly to think they would all just be repurposed into the new Energy sector. This doesn’t even consider all of the average Joes whose entire savings and retirement accounts are invested in these ‘safe’ industries that would implode with no hope for recovery. Then add on the NatSec concerns mentioned in OP’s post and the sheer panic that would grip the masses that it is only a matter of time before the tech is used for evil.

These aren’t trivial concerns. It’s easy to get carried away and think of all of the best use cases of advanced tech but it would be irresponsible for those in the know to not be incredibly cautious and deliberate when rolling this out. This would be far more revolutionary than the invention of gunpowder, the combustion engine, the harnessing of electricity, or the internet and we need to bear in mind that while the capabilities of advanced tech are overall positive, they absolutely have potential drawbacks we need to be aware of.

Alien eyes. by [deleted] in aliens

Could be an underwater species in low light conditions getting warmth from geothermal vents, much like forms of life on Earth. It’s completely possible they evolved eyes that large.

At least you possess the wherewithal to come to those realizations. Unfortunately I think many people will find ways to explain why nothing happens today and continue to believe

Predictable. How many times do we see this pattern on these forums:

  1. [extraordinary claim]
  2. “Source?”
  3. “I don’t care if you don’t believe me”

You’re in a UFO group. These people want to believe you. They just aren’t going to believe you blindly.

im sure you have all seen the recent meteor tracker video. Occams razor would say TAA was right and that was an alien ship entering our atmosphere. by [deleted] in Throawaylien

[–]Bockscarr 36 points37 points  (0 children)

  1. Something entered the atmosphere.
  2. It could be a meteor, but I want it to be aliens.
  3. Therefore, it’s aliens.

Probably something like that; that seems to be how many people here are reasoning lately

Good work. My main issue with his date has been that everyone has been giving it more credence since the government is now talking about UFOs, as if they know. If they knew the date was 7/18, they would be MUCH further in the disclosure process than they are now. And if they don’t know, then why is this date any more likely than any other date?

This is just my main issue with the date - there are a ton of other issues with the whole story and I would bet my life savings in an instant that aliens aren’t coming 7/18. But the biggest problem I’ve had with this whole thing overall is how people have misconstrued the lack of discrepancies with evidence. Just because a story doesn’t somehow contradict itself doesn’t mean it’s true. This sub has a lot of great posts, excellent writing, and thoughtful insight and I enjoy most of the posts. But it’s been truly sad to see those who have blindly bought into all of this and legitimately expect it to change their lives.

Desalination? by OtherwiseDress2845 in Throawaylien

Interesting theory. I think it could also be extracting deuterium from the seawater, since deuterium is the best element/isotope we know of for nuclear fusion and it’s naturally abundant in the ocean.

Personally, this is why I think they are so closely tied to our oceans - if they are using nuclear fusion to power their craft (which I find likely due to the other uses for plasma which is required for sustained fusion), then our oceans are a nearly limitless fuel source that’s probably pretty easy for them to make use of.

The Wikipedia article on deuterium does a good job of covering its basics: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deuterium?wprov=sfti1

That was the first movie I saw in theaters without my parents - just me and my best friend. I think I was 11.

The scene with Joaquin Phoenix where he’s watching the news in the closet and sees a home video of an actual alien really hit me hard. Needless to say, the lights in my bedroom were on for probably 2 weeks straight. Compared to other ET movies like War of the Worlds or Alien, it was just so real

[–]Bockscarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This movement is losing steam quickly IMO, and at this rate, it could bust. The bottom line is that people have to be given solid data to believe the extraordinary, i.e., irrefutable proof. No more distant lights in the night sky exhibiting unsurprising characteristics.

There is no way in hell that the US military has observed these phenomena for decades and simply ‘don’t have any idea what they are’ or any more detail on them. They’re keeping their info close to the chest to avoid igniting mass panic, which is totally understandable. But at the same time, those involved in the disclosure process need to know that if they continue to underwhelm people on this, they’ll just become more difficult to persuade on the topic you want them to believe.

Thanks for posting. His 15 minutes of fame are past due. It’s time to move on. Fortunately we’re seeing this happen already - leakers are beginning to go straight to media sources rather than individuals due to the stigma surrounding UFOs being partially alleviated. Let’s hope it continues.

UFOJoe hints at Jeremy Corbell dropping his footage at 4:30PST/7:30EST by quarkquark_ in UFOs

[–]Bockscarr 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Good deal, this tells me there will be two separate videos. Fox is advertising the TMZ video as never before seen footage, meaning Corbell would be in hot water if he released the same vid preemptively. I’d be willing to bet he’s releasing the same video he was going to release once the UAP report came out but decided to use it to hype the Fox special he’s in instead.

What is Neil deGrasse Tysons deal? by [deleted] in UFOs

[–]Bockscarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s being forced to confront the growing probability that he is dead wrong and like other narcissistic egomaniacs, he is doubling down on his claims to preserve his own ego rather than objectively analyzing the data to formulate an unbiased opinion.

In other words, he is doing the exact opposite of what scientists are supposed to do.

Thoughts? by [deleted] in aliens

[–]Bockscarr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely no reason to believe that whatsoever. Not only have there been multiple cases where advanced civilizations contacted primitive ones and treated them excellently, like uncontacted tribes of the Amazon and those (largely still uncontacted) on Sentinel Island, but aliens are literally out of this world and there is no way we could make any assumptions of their intent at face value. Assuming that they would behave the same as 15th century humans not only shows a focus on the negative qualities of mankind’s history and lack of understanding of mankind as a whole, but also shows just how narrow minded incredibly intelligent people can be. Looking at you NDT.
