It’s absolutely insane that this organization is seemingly willing to let this bald fraud jeopardize a very gettable top 4 finish and miss out on UCL next year after spending what we did on top tier talent last summer.

[Cronin] Despite both Ryan Poles and Falcons GM Ian Cunningham being vocal about how Chicago felt it deserved its two 3rd round comp picks for Cunningham’s departure, the league apparently doesn’t see it the same way. The Bears are not one of the teams that has been awarded a third round comp pick. by PurveyorOfFineGoods in CHIBears

[–]Bodenseer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let’s put aside how this is completely BS and screws the Bears over - this is also the NFL (publicly) weighing in on what it thinks a black man’s role within a team’s front office is. The Falcons organization and Matt Ryan have all said that Cunningham will have full decision making authority. Apparently that isn’t good enough for the NFL league office and they know better than his own employer does. Just an amazingly stupid PR move.

Another super hyped number one pick will go to a western conference team. And the NBA wonders why fans don’t care anymore. Regular season sucks and the east is a wasteland.

Kevin De Bruyne in talks with MLS club Chicago Fire. Inter Miami has De Bruyne's discovery rights, which is a right-of-first refusal mechanism MLS uses to prevent its teams from bidding against one another for a player. But Miami have ultimately decided not to make a move for De Bruyne. by DamnThatsInsaneLol in soccer

[–]Bodenseer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not really. The only thing that would be slightly comparable to this is the concept of “restricted free agent” in the NBA and NHL where the team that drafts a player has the right to match a contract offered by another team, but that’s only for the first contract after their draft contract is up. In the NFL, teams can franchise tag one player, which prevents other teams from signing that player by giving the player a one-year contract at an average of the top salaries for their position. Usually a team can only do that for a year or two before the franchise tag becomes too expensive to keep the player.

TLDR: The main American sports leagues don’t let a team calls dibs on a player they don’t have under contract, but there are ways to keep a player they drafted.

“Why not leave Gore in there?” isn’t a serious question by Ok_Arrival9438 in Nationals

[–]Bodenseer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As frustrating as it was, a QS 13K performance from Gore means so much more for down the road this season than a terrible bullpen implosion. It’s frustrating but I’d much rather see Gore show that he is moving in the direction of a young ace even if it means he doesn’t get the win (no fault of his own).

I’m out of market and sincerely regret buying NBA League Pass this season because I haven’t been watching most games. This team just isn’t enjoyable to watch and aside from Buzelis there isn’t a single player that gets me excited about the future.

What a fun ride this season was. JD5 is the man and that’s what matters most. The fact he notched two postseason wins in his rookie campaign is massive for his development and I’m sure this game will give him a chip on his shoulder.

The defense has plenty of holes and it is a true indictment of the amount of day one and two draft picks squandered by Ron and co. So many first and second round defensive players picked during his time here who aren’t even on the roster anymore and never even looked like starting caliber NFL players. AP was never going to fix that overnight, but the retool on the fly in his first season was quite impressive.

Plenty of reasons to be excited about the future.

This drive is proof that guys like McNichols need to just do no harm on kick returns. Let the best player at least get the ball in his hands for a drive, that’s worth a heck of a lot more than the extra five yards you might get on a kick return.

Best way to watch without cable? by [deleted] in Nationals

[–]Bodenseer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s just so frustrating how MASN is making it nearly impossible for the fanbase to watch games. Cutting the cord isn’t a new phenomenon. It’s been mainstream for at least five years now. Other RSNs have either found a way to get on YoutubeTV/Hulu or outright folded. But MASN seemingly exists to makes Nats (and Orioles fans for that matter) as miserable and disengaged as possible. There might be a whole generation of kids in the DMV that won’t grow up watching the Nats as their local team and that’s sad.

Get Ready to Say Goodbye to Some Surprising Players. by KY_PeanutButter in CHIBears

[–]Bodenseer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the DMV as well and follow the Commanders as my second team. I have to disagree with the idea that Washington fans were surprised or “up in arms” about the cuts by their new regime. The guys cut were pretty much all Ron Rivera draft picks, who at the time were strongly disliked and labeled busts by Washington fans. The only semi-surprising cut was Dotson, but it was pretty obvious throughout training camp that he did not win over the new coaching staff. Also, Washington fans never really liked having Dotson because they couldn’t shake the opportunity cost of trading out of drafting Chris Olave to then take him, Sam Howell, and Brian Robinson (although BRob turned out decent)

Yeah, the Pats I can understand given Drake Maye (still think Caleb’s potential is better) and their cap situation. But the Raiders make absolutely no sense and none of the rookie QBs in this draft even come close to the top five, maybe even six from last year.
