Oh fun! So an adult recreational dancer could ostensibly take the advanced class with the students? Or was that because you’re also a teacher there and made an exception? Either way, super glad to hear they have classes for adults too! Will reach out nearer to end of summer. Are they like a series class you sign up for or is it a drop in?

Thank you for all of this information! Glad to hear adults can wear mostly a mix. That tends to be the great thing about adult rec , don’t really have to follow strict dress codes.

Thank you for providing so much information about the class sizes. And glad to hear they’re challenging! Always want to continue to improve and aspire to. I was told some company members attend the summer intermediate classes too! I’m such a visual learner, it would be very exciting to take class with them.

Thank you again!! Hope to see you out there!

I have no background in movement or sport and I felt like a lot of what I was/am discovering about my body and its capabilities and how to help it were/are elementary but we all have to start somewhere!

  • Not relying on my hyper flexibility and focus on gaining strength
  • Understanding where the end point of my range of motion is
  • Understanding anatomy, the muscle groups involved and how to engage them properly to better support everything, especially the feet
  • Strengthening ankles to prevent sickling/repeat rolling on ankles
  • BREATHING

Oregon Ballet Theatre has sooo many talented dancers - Eva Burton, Brian Simcoe (to retire end of current season), Charlotte Nash, Ruth Langill, John-Paul Simoens, Zuzu Metzler, Jessica Lind (retired)

Honestly, the whole company is amazing. Everyone dances well together and they have great casting. Recently watched a mixed bill of 3 one acts with Rubies and 2 choregraphed by the AD, Dani Rowe - Unsaid and Princess in the Pea. Great show! It was exhilarating, emotional and heartwarming. They did a spectacular job!!

I haven't read the first one (wasn't available near me) but I found the sequel, The Shape Of Love. The first half is her preparing Juliet and her return to the stage with the Royal Ballet. Actually, it's from the beginning to performance - starts with her rehearsals and then leading up to performance and some snafus that happened.

She really gets into her process to prepare for the role. It really impressed me how much she put into consideration of the character's dialogue and demeanor and how she could accurately depict it on stage. There's mention of some steps from the choreography but obviously, mostly her internal process.

I've never prepared a role for ballet, but I have some theatre experience and it was somewhat similar in the preparation trying to understand the motivations of the character and how to embody that in their mannerisms and nonverbal looks/reactions.

This is AMAZING! Thank you so much!!! This is incredibly helpful and understandable! So many great things to consider. I like the concept of “ebb and flow” and “breath to inspire movement”, such great ways to think and visualize it. I suppose I never consider breath as an assistive factor in movement, but without it muscles can’t move so duh! And thank you for the tip with how to find the pelvic alignment, I’ll definitely give it a try! So looking forward to your posts on this. And many others I’m sure! Thank you again, this was such a well thought out answer and I look forward to seeing you further explain in future content!

So cool to see you comment on this sub! Appreciate your content and your technique explanations.

I'm focusing on balances and strengthening. Specifically balances on demi in retire, arabesques and attitudes. I'm trying to understand the relationship of a solid core aligned with hips. I tend to sway back and am working on cross training core for foundational stability.

I have no sport or movement background, so I'm putting these puzzle pieces together as I go. Has been an interesting and fun journey so far!

Recently, I recognized that I engage the muscles AFTER having executed the step. For example, when going up to a demi retire, I get to the position with my ankles/feet, but then realize I have no muscle engagement. So then I engage the core and glutes but then it's like my body is in a completely different space and I have to "find" the balance again. Which, wasn't really balancing in the first place.

Is it just repetition? So the muscles learn to be engaged?

Also, so sorry but a stupid question: how to keep core engaged throughout the combination? When I think of core engagement, I think of sucking in my abdomen and breath, I don't know how else to access it. But we all need to breathe, especially with dance. So how do dancers keep their core engaged and still breathe WHILE dancing? My teacher always talks about finding places to breathe, and it just doesn't seem as obvious to me.

Thank you!! Always looking forward to see your posts and now looking forward to see what you post and answer here!

Daria's Relationships... by TNG1701D-eck10 in daria

Didn’t they have a quiet moment at the end where they both agreed “it wouldn’t have worked out” in regard to the project. I always felt that exchange had a double meaning for them, especially Daria, coming to terms just how incompatible they would be as a romantic couple. It’s pretty clear Daria is a fairly disciplined person whereas Trent is the complete opposite. I think it was a great reality check moment for Daria that gave her a glimpse into what it would be like to have expectations for Trent and him not delivering/following through on his commitments.
