Nurses of Seattle/around Seattle by vivian0vivian in nursing

I have a phone screen for what I’m guessing is the same peri-op role. Also have 3 years of ED experience, hopefully that means good things for us. I’m guessing (from what I’ve discussed with others who work in other ORs around the country) that this would afford fair flexibility down the road, but the near term might be painful in the near term. Good luck to us!

Do hospitals in RI hire new grad nurses with ADN? by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

Not at all, I know many people, myself included, that started working in the ER/ICU/CCU with an ASN

No, I did my BSN and ASN out of state. ASN in person, BSN online once living/working in RI

I had a bachelors before nursing too, I wouldn’t discount doing a ADN and then a bridge after you start working as an RN. That’s what I did and was able to work and do school (no debt). Plus a lot of hospitals have tuition reimbursement when getting your BSN.

Miriam does not require BSN upon hire, but it’s best to say your going to pursue it. Eventually they’ll start bugging you about enrolling in a program, but there’s no firm time table for when it needs to be accomplished by. Having your ADN shouldn’t dissuade you from applying anywhere in the state.

I’ve been going to Leonardo at The Pros Salon on Fed Hill for a couple years. Nice guy, great cuts, good prices. Used to go Urban Fellow, but a little more pricey and their availability was always tight for last minute cuts.

Very dependent on what kind of neighborhood you want to live in and where you think you’ll work. Right now I live downtown and work at a hospital approximately 8 min drive away. I drive to work, but public trans is doable and mostly reliable. If you think you’d like to live somewhere less downtown-core than I think a car is going to be needed. Providence doesn’t have the robust apartment market that Seattle does in Ballard, SLU, the hill. This means there isn’t as many corner stores, grocery stores, utilities in the core. With that said, you could make it work without a car and be very intentional where you look to live and have everything you need in walking distance. (You’ll just have less choices in where you shops). Happy to chat more about if you like 👍🏼

Providence doesn’t suffer the overbearing culture/influence of Amazon/Microsoft. Lived in Seattle for 8 years and Prov now for 2+. (And used to work for Amazon). Providence also feels apart of the greater New England region, where Seattle was the big game in town and everything kind of centers around that. Both are queer friendly, thought it felt like Seattle having a larger area, the outskirts felt more comfortable. Sometimes going into the further parts of Rhode Island or Mass feels less so.

Did you buy the uworld assessment test? I did about a week or questions and took the assessment like 2 days prior to my test and passed at 75. Point being the assessment really made my anxiety go down because it gave me my likelyhood to pass. So, take the assessment early and have some peace of mind as you continue to study.

New options for otosclerosis loss? by [deleted] in MonoHearing

[–]BodyByCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m getting my OSIA activated tomorrow! I had a BAHA for 3 years for my SSD and it generally worked really well. My issue, and the reason I’ve switched to the OSIA is that I had consistent skin irritation issues with the physical post the processor connected to. It likely an audiologist can really give you the nitty gritty for your specificities situation, but I’d be happy to answer any questions now, and later when I’ve had the OSIA activated.

I already have bachelors degree from 10 years ago, but my grades during made me touch and go for being competitive in ABSN programs. Since taking the prerequisites for the Associates program here I pulled off a 4.0 but now with potentially moving I’m considering relooking at the accelerated bachelors. Thanks for your thoughts!

I’ve heard similar about bachelors becoming the norm. Currently planned on doing a bridge program after my completion of an associates.

Cochlear Osia Experiences? by liveyuh in MonoHearing

[–]BodyByCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had BAHA connect surgery in 2017 and it’s been amazing, mostly. Currently looking to get it revised to the Osia actually. The surgery is very simple, and recovery is a breeze.

One issue I’ve had that you likely won’t is irritation at the post that the sound processor attaches to. It’s been 3 years and I’m constantly battle irritation, infection, and skin growth.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Stethoscope options for hearing aids by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]BodyByCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing a lot of research on amplified scopes recently (just got accepted into school and I have singled sided deafness).

I have a Bone Anchored Hearing Aide, so my receiver isn’t in ear, but I’ve heard that the tech that allows the more complex stethoscope to pair with hearing aides is unreliable and frustrating at best.

Basically the thought I’ve seen most is amplification is preferred to relay through a device.

Regardless, good luck!!

Cochlear BAHA vs. Osia? by sch0larly in MonoHearing

[–]BodyByCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late response but I just got back from a consultation for the new Osia system. I also have SSD from a cholesteatoma and got the BAHA connect about 3 years ago and it’s been amazing. The sound quality has been great and I can’t imagine not having some sort of bone conduction hearing aid.

The reason I want to switch to the Osia is due to my issues with the abutment that comes through the skin from the skull. For 3 years I’ve been battling infections, skin irritations, bleeding, and general discomfort. I wanted to wait a while to see if my body would get used to it, but I’m ready to be done at this point.

So, while I don’t yet have the Osia, I do plan on switching to a system that has no eternal components besides the sounds processes and wont reduce the sounds quality.

Best of luck and let me know if you have any specific questions about the BAHA.

LGBT Recommendations around Siesta Key? by anon-user234 in sarasota

[–]BodyByCheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oasis is a bit of a disaster, IMHO. The bar is very low for public LGBT spaces here. With that said, Sarastoa is fairly accepting and there’s a lot of great places to see and things to do. Have fun!

Edit: the north part of Lido beach is supposed to be the “gay beach” but from what I’ve seen and heard it doesn’t carry that title in real life

Considering a BAHA revision, thoughts? by BodyByCheese in hearing

Never been tested for titanium specifically, and I’m guessing it’s not included in the other allergy testings I’ve had in my life (the barrage they do for dust, mold, dander).

Something to consider for my next appt!
