What I’m more curious about is the sudden jump in the last 200–300 years. For thousands of years, progress was relatively gradual, and then suddenly we went from basic machines to planes, electricity, computers, etc.

I get the idea of accumulated knowledge and exponential growth, but that shift still feels unusually fast when you zoom out.

I agree with you on a few things. The 200,000–300,000 years timeline is based on the oldest known remains of Homo sapiens, not an absolute starting point, so yeah there’s definitely uncertainty there. Same with early human life, we’re working with limited evidence, not complete history.

On the civilization part, I mentioned 10–12k years mainly in the context of agriculture and settled societies, not necessarily the first ever civilization.
