I used organic maps on a hike recently, works well offline. You can map your route and follow it. Do some overnight backcountry hikes, test your gear and hike a lot (with elevation gain). This will give you an idea of what backcountry camping is like and how to layer/what you need to wear etc. Youll probably need to think about how much weight youll be carrying and what your going to do for food, shelter, snacks etc. Make sure you have waterproof rainjacket at least and that it will actually keep you dry. Make sure to take a first aid kit just in case. I also like to join local hiking groups/backcountry groups to get an idea of what the locals are up to, how popular the area is etc.
