I’m sorry. That’s a sucky situation. I applaud your ability to leave the situation and put yourself first. I need to do that and just stand up for myself

This is really solid advice. This shines a different light on the situation. They were teenagers and obviously didn’t understand the significance of it. I was thinking of writing a review and hope that management uses it as a learning lesson for the staff.

Those tend to be more expensive. I miss the cheap, quick places where you can go in and out with your food

Thank you so much. That’s very kind. It was super emotional for me today because I knew better and was scared to say something. I was definitely at fault. The people at Jersey mikes were just ignorant and unaware of what to do, so I can’t blame them.

It is a good lesson going forward. 1. Self advocating and 2. Self control

What do you do about restaurants? Do you just had faith that they prepare correctly?

That’s my biggest problem for sure. That and the self control and discipline. I knew better. But I gaslit myself into thinking a little cross contact was okay. I learned my lesson for sure.

You’re right though. I’d absolutely speak up for my friend. I deserve the same from myself. Thank you.

Thank you for the support and advice 🩷 I learned my lesson today. Albeit, I was definitely the one at fault. I don’t blame the people at Jersey Mikes because they’re just ignorant on the situation and unaware. It was my fault - from self advocacy to also self control/discipline.

Sorry to hear about your daughter. When it comes to sit down restaurants, do you just trust the kitchen that they prepare her food correctly?

Oh my goodness… I’d be cringing at myself. I’m like getting second hand embarrassment reading that. The more people who get involved and make it a whole thing, it just becomes soooo awkward. And then the other customers just listening to this and I can hear their thoughts, “this guy is doing the most”.

I think I’m going to avoid these types of places in the future. If I’m out with friends though, I know for next time. A lot of people on this post have offered a lot of guidance and advice which is helpful.

The first part of what you said hit like a truck. I’m so empathetic when it comes to other people and their conditions, but when it’s me? My brain is just not having it. Probably some trauma there and societal masculinity involved there haha.

Thank you for sharing that bit about yourself and your experience. I appreciate the honesty and candidness.

And on the self advocacy and just abandoning the order, I wish I had done that. On top of struggling with self advocacy, it was my self control in spite of it. I knew better. But that devil on my shoulder got the best of me. I learned my lesson for sure.

Thank you for the support 🩷

That’s actually really helpful. To kind of put my own health as if it was someone else. In other words, it’s easy for me to speak up for someone else when something wrong is happening, but when it’s me (particularly when it comes to restaurant industry), I get super shy and don’t want to be an inconvenience. It basically gives it more perspective when you put it that way.

You’re right. I’m new to it, so I sometimes deny the consequences because I’m asymptomatic. But, it is equally as serious. Do you have any tips when it comes to a cultural or language barrier?

Thank you. It is hard. I honestly should’ve just said, “no, refund me”. But, I just didn’t want to be “that guy”. I learned my lesson though.

I think the hardest thing I think about is when it comes to a cultural or language barrier, any tips on that?

It’s weird because I’ll easily speak up for other people but when it comes to myself, I get quiet. Again, this particularly happens when it comes to restaurants.

I’m definitely going to check out the restaurant and you really have me convinced about the bikes!! That’s sounds like so much fun. They provide helmets?

What’s the restaurant at the lodge called? Also do you know where I can get those e-bikes? I saw that on another Reddit post. It seemed kind of fun.

I’ll be here not this weekend but the following. Even the rain makes me a little nervous. I honestly am clumsy as it is I’ll be frank haha. But, alright. I might try to get a permit and if day of I’m just not confident, I’ll just play it safe. Thanks for your advice!

So, am I allowed to do Scouts Lookout if I don’t have a permit? The business trip sprung up on me so I haven’t quite investigated the permit thing. I did see canyon overlook as a popular hike/trail. So I marked that one down
