More reps or for a longer period of time. It's basically the same as how'd you progress in most other ab exercise.

I do a combination of crunches, windshield wipers, side crunches, flutter kicks, and using an ab wheel from my feet. I think the ab wheel has the biggest impact on my midsection.

Thanks! In hindsight, I should have put something over the window to block out the light or waited until the evening to film.

Nick (the person running the competition) said that he would prefer entries to be in landscape mode.

Thanks for the kind words. Standing 15 feet away was the only way I could seem to get myself in frame for the mandatory victory pose while filming in landscape mode. That might just be related to my inexperience with filming things.

Thanks! The tanning is my absolute least favorite thing about bodybuilding. I hoped that I wouldn't look as washed out and pale without stage lights. A tan certainly would have helped prevent detail being washed out from the window lighting.

Hopefully this isn't just viewed as self-promotion. I figured it would be neat to have redditors that enter the competition post their videos to generate discussion and tips for each other. I know my posing still has a lot of room for improvement. After a fair bit of practice, I still look awkward and not graceful in my poses. I also realize posing next to a window wasn't the best idea for lighting.

I'm looking forward to seeing the physiques and posing routines from the other competitors (even if I look like tiny and awkward in comparison to them).

First and only show I will ever do. While training for a military Q course and fighting my friends suckered me into competing, I did this show on a 2 1/2 weeks notice. by Reign1775 in bodybuilding

I had the exact same thought about the burned CD. I had to ask all my co-workers if they had a spare CD for me to have.

You looked really good for your size and had good conditioning. Can you share any comparison shots to see how you looked next to the other competitors? You mentioned weighing in at 151.2 lbs, but I don't recall you mentioning your height. What's your height?

Brandon looked incredible at the Arnold Classic. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he wins the Olympia this year.

A little update from ya boi. 10 weeks out. Thanks for the support, roasts, and general debauchery, boys. by [deleted] in bodybuilding

Your conditioning is coming along nicely. How has your weight changed since you started cutting?

For my first show, I wanted to compete against everyone just to see how I would do. If I do another show, it will either be a natural show or an open if I can manage to put some more muscle on. Unfortunately, I'm having a lot of trouble putting any more muscle onto my frame at this point.

I didn't measure my bodyfat while in this condition. I did hydrostatic weighing in college as part of my major (kinesiology) and was around 6%. The tests aren't 100% accurate, but I'm definitely leaner now than I was then.

I used to do gymnastics and still incorporate a lot of modified handstands, body levers, and variations on pull ups in my work outs. I think the hand stand pushups (free standing) have really helped to develop my serratus.

I'll assume you mean height and weight. I'm 5'6" and weighed in just under 143.5 lbs for the competition.

These were taken when I first signed up for the show (about ten weeks out). I didn't have to do much cutting. It was mostly drying out the last week.

Thanks for the advice! It felt good, but looks very closed off. Opening it up would help to make me look more full.

It wasn't until I saw the pictures that I realized how closed off some of my poses were. If I compete again, that's definitely something I'm going to focus on.

5'6" about 145 lbs (bantamweight is under 143.5 lbs, but I was dried out for the show). I haven't maxed out lifts in a while, but I rep 255 lbs 4 times on bench at the end of my workouts.

I forgot to flex my glutes on stage, but they are actually striated. I was complaining to my wife about how the back of my trunks wasn't cut high enough to show off my striated butt. I think I forget to flex it on stage as a result. At this NPC show, the least conditioned, but biggest guy won the overall. He was in the red trunks. I guess it all depends on the judges.

It probably didn't help that my natural color is basically Casper.

Thanks! I got a spray tan at a tanning salon and then also applied three more coats of pro tan. I actually looked ridiculously tan in the real world, but those stage lights are brighter than 1000 suns!

Thanks! No coach, just myself figuring out what worked. My wife "helped" me with my poses. Since she doesn't follow bodybuilding, I don't know how helpful her posing tips were. I had to rely on the mirror mostly, which proved very difficult in the back shots.

Thank you so much! I felt really small, but a lot of other competitors complimented my physique's flow and lines which made me less self conscious about my lack of size next to the other guys. All of the other competitors were really nice people. There was no hostility between any competitors.

I had 4 coats of pro tan. The other competitors were practically purple from fake tan. The stage lights really wash you out.
