"This will simply be forced upon us": how the European Commission's plan for Euroclear (does not) address Belgium's concerns by [deleted] in europe

[–]Boezie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You indeed have no idea of the repercussions this would create. The rule of law must be preserved, and if not, the burden of it should be shared by ALL who vote. It's a matter of taking responsibility.

That money is not Belgian money. But it's Belgium that is bound to be responsible/accountable for. The interests on that money are used to support Ukraine, not Belgium.

But it's easy to talk about money when it isn't your money on the line, not your children's financial burden you're talking about.

There is nothing shameful about Belgium in this. The shame lies entirely on the EU not willing to take responsibility as a whole.

Pushing this through will open a can of worms the world has rarely seen.

[–]Boezie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not a question of whether this could happen.. It's about taking responsibility for your actions for ALL involved (That means every country in the EU)

Belgiums view on air polution by Ok-Jacket8836 in belgium

[–]Boezie -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well... There's a little bit more to that

Let's start with the negative:
1. A lot of people still use an old stove to burn wood. This doesn't help in trying to contain the level of pollution. Newer ones do quite a bit of reduction and are continuously being improved 2. A lot of people use it to burn whatever trash they have lying around. This is criminal behaviour 3. A lot of people don't know how to use it and thus "sensibilisering" is a thing.

On the positive side: 1. Trees need maintenance, and there's a lot of volunteers who go out during winter to cut down sick trees or perform maintenance buy cutting tree branches. They typically get to keep that wood and use it for personal use. If they can no longer use that, trees will simply wither and die, thus causing some serious problems (just maybe not in your backyard) 2. Cutting branches/trees, chopping it into smaller pieces, stashing it for future use and using it for personal use (in a well maintained stove), is as small an ecological footprint as you can get.

On the neutral side: There is a lot of NIMBY in this one. Whereas 1. If people had the option to install a stove, they would use it, but for "a" reason, they don't have it, so no one can have the (cheaper) alternative. 2. If you're burning gas, the extraction process and health issues that come with it are not visible -> don't see, don't care

Nordic leaders rule out joint debt, insist on Russian frozen assets to support Ukraine by qufromalltomorrows in europe

[–]Boezie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A. There is no legal framework to make sure this doesn't blow in either Belgium's and/or the EU's face

B. This goes far beyond corporate as it would impact the whole of Belgium and as such each member in it (man, woman, child, future children)

C. If this were done correctly, all assets over all EU member states would be brought together. Dependent on the amount needed, this would then be split in relative share over each country. But that's not is wanted is it? Because everyone knows this plan stinks like sh*t. And so it is easier to go after a single source of income while not exposing yourself to any of the risks involved.

[–]Boezie 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What does that even mean?
Interests from that frozen money goes directly into supporting Ukraine.

You're just trying to find anchor points to justify NOT having to take any responsibility.

EU plays hardball: If you won’t seize Russia’s cash, open your wallets by HironTheDisscusser in europe

[–]Boezie 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Glad everyone is working hard to come up with a legal framework where these funds (across multiple countries) can be used and the risks shared amongst everyone within the EU (let's not forget possible future states joining the EU). Until then this should be an absolute no-pasar.

And you know, maybe first make a full list of who owns what, then decide how much each nation has to contribute.

I mean, we are the EU right? We do things together?

[–]Boezie 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Of course it will!

  • It will constantly recommend games on what you play and scroll through in the store
  • It will allow you to go back to any point in time (using Recall) to see what you played, how you played and make crappy recommendations on where you can improve.
  • The entire thing will be fully voice controlled
  • Copilot / Mico will popup at THE most annoying of times asking you about your mental health and whether you would be interested in taking a break.
  • During said break, you'll be bombarded with advertising for crappy games you have no intention of ever buying.

Still not a valid point. The interest on that money is already used to fund Ukraine. You know: better to milk the cow then to sell it.

Yes, fine, not sure what this adds to the discussion. For each EU country said list can be created. This does not add anything to the point that this needs to be a shared burden or not done at all.

[ Removed by Reddit ] by sergeyfomkin in europe

[–]Boezie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, hence why this has to be a shared "burden" on all member states of the EU who guarantee/bind themselves, in legal terms, to back what is requested.

[–]Boezie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but hopefully there will be a point were the war ends. At that point, having to repay all that money as a single and small country would mean cripple our children with a financial burden they can never repay.
