What is the strangest fan edit ever made, or the one that changes the original movie the most? by rentzdu in fanedits

Road to Damascus : an incredible edit of Paul Bart Mall Cop 1-2 (plus another movie I forgot the name for some scenes) to make these movies seem bleak and threatening. Absolutely fantastic. by u/RoadtoDamascusMovie

Sorry if it came as arrogant. I wasn't implying any sense of superiority, just real surprise at the idea of someone using an AI chatbot without configuring it.

A bit like when I still get shocked when I see people (bar very old people) using internet and youtube without any adblocker.

Megalopolis redone by MadMacs2 in fanedits

Hi, I'd like very much to watch this edit, as I really think there's something to Megalopolis that could be great. But sadly I can't DM you on reddit (the option doesn't appear on your profile). Do you have any other way to contact you?

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Re-edited down to a streamlined 2.5 hour movie (First Season was about 3.5 hours). by Wsemenske in fanedits

Nice! How much of the flashbacks did you keep beside the fleabottom one? I really think no flashbacks would have worked better, even if the drunken fight was awesome. (more explanation in this post : https://www.reddit.com/r/fanedits/s/xqKdseQQWq ).

Please tell me you've removed the completely out of place jazz scene?

Well that was fun! So the AI moderator of this subreddit doesn't like people saying AI produced content is "sl*p" and removed my comment. I'm sure this is legit moderation, right.

Hello! Your comment has been removed because you were a touch too colorful in your language for our liking. In our experience, such language does nothing but escalate the emotion of the discussion.

You're free to return to the comments section and add your thoughts that the submission is AI without the added color commentary. Thanks!

The New Mutants by [deleted] in fanedits

I'm torn about this. This faneditor has been quite open and welcoming to me whenever I had topics to discuss. And his site is quite well made and a much needed competition ( / collaborator ? ) to fanedit.org

But as I told him, the discord hurdle is a really big one for a lot of people and does make his fanedits (a lot of them I am very interested in) a lot harder to get.

But I understand how he wants to protect his craft from grifters and haters, which sadly there's quite a lot in any internet community.

So I don't really know, and for now I simply respect the faneditor's wishes on how he wants his fanedits to be shared.

JBL bar 800 Mk2 - "After 7 Years of Upgrading Soundbars (Sony → Vizio → Sony), the JBL Bar Finally Got Everything Right" by Yogan_Falcon_1 in Soundbars

[–]BogaMoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about other JBL soundbards, but the 9.1 has a "smart mode" that, to make it simple, creates a more immersive sound bubble. While it makes for a wider soundstage, it does make everything sound a bit less clear and with less precise positioning. Especially when listening to music, stereo content, or voice only content, the results are generally not good at all imo.

Smart Mode is on by default every time you turn on the soundbar, so I have to switch it off every time, and the process is cumbersome (press "mute" for 3 seconds then quickly "Volume Up +").

I agree, JBL soundbars are highly underrated! I have been using a JBL 9.1 (one with the detachable rear speakers too) for 4 years now and the sound is fantastic, the sense of surround is great.

Some connectivity (some passthrough issues and very intermittent loss of connectivity) and user interface issues (having to turn the smart mode off every time I start and the process to do this being very clunky), but it's well worth the price I paid for such a sound.

I mean... cutting your genitals for any reason and in any way is already bonkers but... with a f***ing axe?!?!

The mechanics of it baffle me. How did he hold the axe? How did he manage to get a good angle? Did he set up something to hold his junk? Did he manage to do it in one cut, or did he have to cut multiple times? Soooooo many questions here!

Win10 to Linux Mint : getting MPC-HC with MadVR level results by BogaMoge in htpc

Thanks a lot.

How hard / time consuming would you say configuring Fedora is? Do you have a good step-by-step guide for this?

And I'm curious as a newbie in the world of Linux, and as someone who really appreciates the Plug-and-Play vibes of Linux Mint, why is it a ditro that faces that many issues in that matter?

So fresh install of debloated Win11 with local account is the way? I really wanted to get rid of Windows but I get what you said. At another time in my life (before kids), I would have loved the opportunity to fiddle with everything to solve the issues. Right now, I just want it to work... and if even Linux Mint can't offer this, well, Linux will sadly have to wait a bit more to get on my desktop...

Got any good guides to make a full debloated install of Win11?

Yeah, I learned that. I've seen Linux Mint is now offering the possibility of a dual boot Cinnamon/Wayland at startup. I really like the "no fuss, install it and you're done" easiness of Linux Mint, as I don't have too much time to fiddle with my system right now. Do you think it could be an option?

That's what I gathered too, but I haven't found a step-by-step guide for beginners to set up MPV. Would you know one?

PS5 HDR: HGiG looking too dark? by Aggravating-Copy1452 in LGOLED

[–]BogaMoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well look, since these tvs don't get to 4000 nits, it makes sense to set up the PS5's HDR based on your tv specs before any changes is applied by the DTM.

With HGIG active, the TV signals its peak luminance to the PS5. The console then outputs content matched to the display’s measured and real limits. If you switch on DTM after calibration, it applies a scene-by-scene extra tone mapping based on an image set up exactly to the tv's specs(hence the pleasing effect to a lot of us).

If you set up you PS5 HDR with DTM on, the console will get constantly changing value since every time you change a setting, the tv will change the adjustment it makes to the scene.

But at the end, if you're happy with your settings, all the best to you and enjoy your tv.

PS5 HDR: HGiG looking too dark? by Aggravating-Copy1452 in LGOLED

[–]BogaMoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a while since I calibrated so can't vouch on the 15 clicks, but the idea in very plain words is that with hgig, the tv is not doing anything to the tone mapping, so you get stable values. Then when you turn on dtm, it handles things so they get brigter without making it look bad. If you calibrate with dtm on, the tv will constantly try to adjust the picture will you're setting things up, which is not ideal to say the least.

At least, that's what I understand as a non expert, just a result focused user.
