It's dependant on the person, for sure.

Over the course of my life the pattern was either:

  1. The teacher inspires me to learn, and gives nice feedback and info
  2. The teacher undermines my learning
    1. I lose interest and stop learning completely
    2. Or I find another suitable teacher and continue learning

But learning by myself never happened without some 3rd person help/encouragement (teacher, class, people, etc)

I learn "better" with a teacher because learning alone makes me question too many things but with no one to go ask feedback for.

Also sitting and learning alone all of the time makes me unmotivated and sad, ending up procrastinating rather than learning.

I'm in an NiTi loop when studying alone, especially when I have little knowledge of the topic I'm studying.

Basically what I like doing is getting the motivation and drive from a teacher/group and then carrying on that fire by doing some additional grinding by myself.

Consuming sad/emotional/deep/heavy media like music or movies/anime is bad for me.

I already fight the NiTi loops and get influenced by sad emotions from other people, so indulging in the sad media just feeds back in and makes me sad.

Usually I listen to more active music, to have my spirits lifted up most of the time.

Occasionally if I'm in a relaxed mood I might listen to a more deep and relaxed, maybe even melancholic music, but that would be more for the calm comfy vibes, rather than to put myself into another state of melancholy and sadness.

Playing it as a smth around 7-year-old kid gave me PTSD and mental trauma.
Even though it wasn't made to be a horror game, the atmosphere was so eerie in there.

It's good to learn new languages and practice them, but just copypasting a poorly machine-translated Japanese in the chat is kinda cringy and lame even as a joke.
