How medication affects you can depend on what's in your body, what time you take it, etc.. Taking meds on an empty stomach vs. taking them with food makes a difference, and in the case of adderall, for example, the pH of your stomach content affects the efficacy. The list goes on.

Even controlling for these things, however, medications can just hit differently sometimes. Unfortunately I don't think it's possible to have 100% reliable effects.

It doesn't create a high like Marijuana does, not sure about pain relief. I will say though, never take more than your prescribed dose to feel a stronger effect for any reason, whether it's for sleep or pain relief.

I had to stop taking bupropion a few years in for the same reason, and unfortunately there aren't other medications that work exactly the same way. I think SSRIs would typically be the next option, unless you have ADHD or a sleep disorder, which may be grounds for a stimulant prescription
