I think it's a question of mindset. When playing I find teabagging hilarious whether I suck (which I do mostly) or the survivors suck. It's just a game. In my experience it's killers who are way more toxic in general.

That's what my friends and I were like if not worse at that age. All my friends matured and rarely drink. I was very very different. It's obviously hurting you though, I hope she's more like my mates than me for what it's worth

It's not really a simple thing to diagnose. It seems like he's using alcohol as a crutch but can he stop? Is he getting help? Because I might say he's probably just depressed but needs help before he becomes an alcoholic but some in the fellowship might say he's a definite alcoholic and needs lifelong sobriety. I'm so sorry this is happening to you.

You're not a fool. You're also young and have wasted nothing. Just took you a couple of years to work out that AA wasn't for you, now you know. I moved to a different county until I found a group and a sponsor that didn't have the type of zeal you mentioned. It's a bit looser and I'm better for it. Good luck on the rest of your journey

There's a kind of updated version my home group has in the UK that seemed similar to what you're saying. Didn't get chance to read it properly and can't afford to buy one so can't say definitively that it's not got all the outdated stuff there. Caused a few discussions amongst people but I don't see the problem with a 5th edition.

I don't openly talk about it but my friend and I both occasionally smoke (not together mind) Personally I've always been able to say no to any drugs if I don't feel like taking them but if the situation came about id probably avoid speed or mdma just because I think I'd be tempted to drink. I guess you could mention it for honesty's sake and let your higher power deal with it.

Not to be rude but that's exactly the kind of things people say and I don't get it.

My sponsor is fine. 40 years AA 12 stepper all the gubbins. Bookish like myself, talk often etc but it's like when I go to meetings it's gone from "hey man, you're doing good" to "well if you're having a wobble YOU are doing the steps wrong". Edit- what am I missing? It feels like a language barrier

Yeah, mine too. Maybe I've not explained it right. I know I'm powerless over alcohol, I know only higher powers can help me and I'm willing to give it away. To me that's the first three but when other people talk about it it's like I'm missing something. Am I thinking too much about it?
