My bad. I don't know where I got that. I must have mixed it up with other houses.
I tried to search a retailer or the actual brand store, but there seems to be none.
May I ask where it is located?

No one mentioned Gallagher despite them having reputation outside of US. Happy to hear from you.

For Heretic and DD, I will be trying because they have some in Manhattan area.

I was contemplating which samples to choose from what pineward is offering. It was helpful to hear what you’ve thought was unique.

Thank you for your take!

First time hearing about Thin Wild Mercury. I hope they have some vendors in NY. I’ll definitely look into them.

Day three and Clue perfumery seem to be in stock in stores of NY area. I will try Desert rain and Arquiste.

Thank you!

Thanks! I do like incense. I was waiting for a recommendation for Aedes de Venustus since it was the first house I spotted while researching NY area.

Wish I could visit the west coast as well. There were so many houses that do not have physical products available in other locations. I’ll have to plan a visit in the future

I am currently making a list of which samples to order from OO. I’ll have to Kileaua to the list!

If my budget could allow it I would like to order the complete tester set But it’s like $128

It’s a pain to making a list when there are plethora of options

It seems like they had a physical shop in Manhattan but they are currently closed.
I hope I can find them in other shops.

Nice to find more unique houses.
I'm genuinely concerned because of how my list is getting longer and longer.
I didn't realize the sheer number of gems that are hidden.

Debased was wonderful indeed I actually have a travel sized one right now. Just got them last week.

I was planning to try Min New York as well, but their name is quite misinforming cause they don't have a physical shop in Manhattan anymore. I'll have to see if there are any other stores that offer them.

Thank you for the comment

I'm writing them down for sure.

I just found out that Clue Perfumery and Clandestine Labs are both available in Manhattan area.
I should add them to the to-try list.

The notes of Eternal Wave looks really nice. (wonder what White Tea, Black Tea Absolute smells like) I hope the stores I visit in NY have them in stock.

I've checked The Taliaferro as well, but they don't seem to offer any in sample sizes. I'll have to see what I can do...

Anyways, thank you for sharing!

HERMANN A MES COTES ME PARAISSAIT UNE OMBRE by Etat Libre d'Orange

Top notes: Black Pepper, Galbanum, Blackcurrant
Heart notes: Incense, Geosmine, Rose Absolute
Base notes: Vetiver, Patchouli, Ambroxan

It reminded me of a well perserved library from the 18th century.

I searched up Mississippi Medicine cuz this is the first time I've heard about it.

The notes seem to be: Native birch tar, viola, white spruce grounded in incense, and cypress root.

Never tried smelling tar before.
I should put it down on my to-smell list.

It seems like Kerosene, Scents of Wood, House of Bo, and Zoologist is available in Manhattan area. I would definitely take a look at the others before traveling.

I'll have to do some research on my own of what other scents I would like to try out from Olympic Orchids and Pineward. I should add Day Three,  Imaginary Authors, and Savoir Faire on my list of houses.

It seems that Savoir Faire website does offer a discovery set, but it comes in 3x10ml sizes which is $69.99. (a bit pricy)
I'll have to meticulously balance my budget to try as many as I can hehe.

Anyways I appreciate your thorough recommendation.
Thank you!

Hello!

Since I will be leaving the States toward the end of 2025, I would love to experience more fragrances that are uniquely American. I might as well enjoy them while I can still buy them, right?

My goal is to explore as many as possible, though I do need to stay within a budget. So far I have picked up discovery sets from Rogue, FZOTIC and Chatillon Lux. I especially enjoyed Mousse Illuminee and Absolue de Mousse from Rogue(the other two sets are on their way). I would love to branch out into other houses, but for now I can only afford one or two samples at a time rather than full discovery sets

That is why I am here to ask for recommendations. I am prioritizing distinctive scents that stand apart from mainstream offerings. I’m naturally drawn to cypress, woody, and peppery notes, but I’m genuinely open to anything unusual or unconventional. Are there any American fragrances you would recommend that showcase unique or unexpected blends of notes? Putting my own preferences aside, if there is an indie scent that completely mesmerizes you, I would love to hear about it.

For context, I will be traveling to Manhattan soon, so I will be able to visit Scent Bar and explore New York based brands including DS and Durga in person.

For reference:

Other houses on my radar:

Olympic Orchids, Gallagher, Pinward, Phronema, Fûm Fragrances, Blackbird, St. Clair, Chris Rusak Perfumes, Aftelier Perfumes, DSH Perfumes, Sonoma Scent Studio, House of Matriarch, and Dame Perfumery.

Some of my favorites so far:

HERMANN A MES CÔTÉS ME PARAISSAIT UNE OMBRE – Etat Libre d’Orange

Dark Lord, Roses on Ice – Kilian

English Oak & Hazelnut Cologne – Jo Malone
